We are at the bum end of this lovely summer break.......I wake up to Friday. Our last full day...the day that Ma and Pa return.
The weather forecast on the Tv had said Friday was going to be a corker of a day.
Wall to wall sunshine.....sun cracking the flags.......that kind of day.
So why, when I opened my curtains, was the sky a heavy leaden grey colour?
Who ran off with the sun in their suitcase?
We had thought we would spend the morning at the beach.....then buy something for tea...something tasty for when Nicola and Greg landed, tired and looking for sustenance.
As I was giving the tinlids the weetabix they had craved(plus toast and marmalade that they said they were fed up of) I noticed that big splodges of rain were falling in the back yard......Billy Bird was on the roof of the wash house....hoping I would burn the toast.
I didn't, and he got a very thin breakfast...nothing!
It looked like the beach was not an option.
Never mind I was going to put all the towels from the property...and the bath mats in the wash....run the hoover over the carpets, give the bathroom a going over.........I wanted us to leave the place much like when we arrived.
The children watched TV...but kept an eye open for the weather too as I had said that if it fined up, we would be off out.
Nicola had said that she would ask if she could have an early finish at work......so that they could be down with us for tea.
She asked me to keep an eye on the street outside the house and keep a parking space for the car.
I should explain at this point....the street where we stayed was very narrow........only just two car widths.....parking only allowed on one side of the street......and any passing cars had to mount the pavement to pass parked cars.
Since Nicola and Greg had gone home, there had been a Mondeo sized car parked in front of the house...and it never moved in those two days.
Mid morning the car moved. I had three traffic cones in the side passage.......I hoiked these out to reserve the spot.
A couple of hours later a woman in a red car pulled up outside the house...got out of her car and moved the cones....and parked in the space! Grrrrrrr! I went outside and had words with her, leaving the tinlids in the house. Miss BD was writing a card for Mrs Hughes, Spindles was watching TV.
While I was exchanging words with this woman both children came out of the house and stood on the pavement watching......the door of the house slammed shut!
By this time the woman had mouthed some not very nice words to me(though I had been nothing but polite) and retreated into one of the houses.
There we were...me and the tinlids...locked out of the house......keys and phone on the sideboard in the house.
This was not looking like a good day.
It didn't get a whole lot better!
To be continued.
