I should have told you all.....when we were in Exmouth I became a fully fledged wheelchair pusher....I was fed up with just being the apprentice.
It has taken me three years to qualify and the course has meant me being able to negotiate a wheelchair over various types of terrain.......the path past the golf course in Newquay (last year) was nearly the undoing of me. The Hill in Newquay was a killer too... by the time I got to the top I needed two paramedics with Oxygen to revive me.....all Muti could say was 'Me poor bum'......what about my breathing apparatus?
Anyway, while we were away in Exmouth Muti took us to a cafe......the drinks were on her.....and then she broke the news......I'd passed!
She said it was touch and go at one point......maybe that was when she jammed her stick in the wheel and nearly upended the both of us.
She said she was pleased to tell me that it would mean an increase in my stipend....she had to explain THAT one to me......she said that from now on I would get double pay......how good is that? Wait a minute.....I don't get any pay......I told her this and she laughed and said from now on I would get double nothing.......I said 'What's that come to?'.........'Bugger all' was her reply and we fell about laughing.
I told Muti about me being a finalist in the amatuer photographic competition. I asked if she thought I had got my talents(such as they are) from pa......she said 'No....you are unique'
I'm not quite sure whether this is good or bad. I wish that kind of praise had come when I was 11.....maybe I would have done more with my life. But then again I am such a contrary Mary that if anyone tells me that I can't do anything....I will go all out to prove them wrong.
Determination Duxbury......as I was then!
Muti has been to the oncologist today and as she is well they have decided to put her appointment to every six months.....with the proviso that she will be seen sooner if any problem raises its ugly head. I want to be pleased and happy - but to be honest I am a little bit afraid that if we think we have beaten the big C ...... it will confound us by creeping up on us when we least expect it......so I suppsoe you could say that I am cautiously optimistic.
I plan to put the Christmas trees up this weekend. I had planned to do this task on Saturday afternoon, but I received a text message from my daughter to say that her Friday psychology class has been cancelled because the tutor will not teach less than 10 students and there will be less than 10 students in on Friday......so I will have a free day.......think I will do the job on Friday. Save Saturday for R&R.
I can't believe students would jeopardise the chances of their co-students by failing to turn up for class.... but there you are. Daughter has the curriculum and plans to do some self study and complete one of her assignments so I don't suppose it is all bad.
I am hoping to go to Bury Market tomorrow with my daughter and her family.....I say hoping because earlier in the week her little boy was poorly with some kind of 24 hour vomitting bug.....Monday he was 2 and Tuesday he was sick......apparently, though he is still off his grub a bit, he is back to being a live wire. That's kidlidids for you!
