Giving up bacon.

I went up to see Ma today.
Take her some shopping and check on her heart rate and blood pressure.
We have a visit to the Docs later on this week.
I was chatting to Ma when she said that she was considering giving up meat and bacon.

I asked her what she would live on?
She couldn't adequately answer this question.
I asked her where she would get her protein from...that one foxed her too.
I asked her what had made her consider(after 88 years) such a drastic change in her eating habits.
She started to say 'that experts....'
I stopped her there.
I asked her what an expert was.
She considered this for a moment......she said she had been listening to the recent news of studies regarding meat consumption and various cancers.
I explained that research was usually sponsored by someone who had a point to prove....and was willing to prove it with as much money as was necessary.
That research studies were biased to remove the criteria which would show anything that would disprove the point that the sponsor wanted to prove......and that research was no real basis to change the habits of 88 years......that research that didn't find in favour of the sponsor was discarded as flawed.
She still hadn't told me what an expert was.....so I told her the X marks the spot and a spurt is just a drip under pressure.

This explanation made her chuckle and she said that she wouldn't give up meat and bacon after all...she said if it was going to kill her it was taking its time...and that she would rather die happy than be a miserable vegetarian(sorry to any vegetarians out there...I am just reporting verbatim what my dear old funny mother had to say).

Glad yer mams seen sense Margaret, Bacon is my main breakfast diet, always has been, n i'm batting along nicely.:);)

Yes Cashy, I know that if she goes off bacon she is definitely not well.
A full English is her favourite thing when we are away....she looks forward to every morning just so that she can indulge.
