Happy bunny

I don't mean to sound smug or anything but I really am very happy being me at the moment. I had this revelation last night at the Rovers game - we were winning 2-1 at that point - and my mind flashed back over the fantastic Christmas holidays that we've had and I just got really HAPPY!

We had a fabulous Christmas day - the kids loved it, no one argued, the family came around and ate a food mountain and everything was generally pleasant.

Boxing day was the same, followed by another party at our house on the Wednesday for our extended family and a few friends. A tiny bit sad because Nanna wasn't there but actually quite cathartic having a party without her. When she died in August none of the family were looking forward to the Christmas without her, she loved it especially the parties, but we all raised a glass for her and actually had a bit of closure. Sad but strangely uplifting.

Then 16 of us went up to Center Parcs for the weekend - 12 adults and 4 children - and it was fantastic. We had plenty to eat and drink, we played tennis, crazy golf and endless pop trivia quizzes and we just had a fabulous time. New Year's eve at midnight we were stood on the banks of the lake watching a firework display sharing champagne with our best friends and total strangers. It was possibly the first New Year's Eve that I have truly enjoyed in a long time.

We rushed back to get back for the Rovers match last night and made it just in time for the kick off. As I said, I was watching the match and thinking about stuff and I couldn't think of one single thing that made me unhappy - ok, yes I'd love a bit more money, who wouldn't - but essentially things are fine. I have a great family and the kids thoroughly charmed all the rest of the housemates over the last few days, I love my job even though I'm sometimes under a bit of pressure and work too hard at times, my Hubby is really, really nice and lovely (and he puts up with me) and what more could I ask for.

Also, again at the match I was thinking that shouting 'ref get some glasses' is about as far removed from visiting an art installation in a gallery as anything could be and I love doing both and can switch from one sort of culture to another pretty seamlessly - I just thought it was all fab.

Before you ask, I hadn't been drinking I was just full of the joys of the New Year and looking forward to a really exciting time. The period coming up to Christmas seemed really oppressive with all the planning and work involved that I feel like the New Year has arrived and it's all clean and white and an open book again.

So, sorry to sound a bit smug but I am in that sort of joyous mood!
