Harry Potter

Found the book on internet my gf's been reading it :p She'll be buying it tonight tho!

Asda were originally going to be boycotted because the publisher claimed to not be paid, but they have sorted that out now and asda have slashed the price.

I'm totally against the whole Asda thing. It will put smaller more book specific stores out of business if Asda do loss-leading selling like this just because they can afford to with their mountains of cash.
If the smaller book stores didn't exist Harry Potter would have never took off because it was a slow seller and the supermarkets would have just sent it back.

Totally agree with you there Cyfr. ADSA and the like have been the death knell for shops like Wardleworths which I used to love.

ASDA notice this afternoon. From midnight tonight. New Harry Potter book £5. 2 per customer. First come first served.

If ASDA is selling the book at a loss then that is below the belt and they should be hauled over the coals because as I understand it loss leaders are not legal any more.

However if £5 generates ASDA at least 1p profit then that is market forces at work. It does begger the question though – if ASDA can sell the book at £5 and still make a profit imagine what profit a book shop is making by selling the book at the RRP of around $17.

Personally I will wait until the film comes out on DVD. I’ve got the first four because they are rattling good yarns and I’m looking forward to getting the remainder over time.

I'm being hassled by my daughter who wants to go to the Asda at midnight despite the fact that my wife and daughter have one pre-ordered from WH Smith and I have access to a downloaded version for them to read, anyone going at midnight?

i was going to but i had to nip down about 30 mins ago, was told they have 3 pallets of books, i dint think that many people in accy could read lol so i think ill be safe in the morning

didnt say, but work it out asda has 300 stores and ordered 500000 copies thats about 1500 per store so even if smaller towns got less i bet you still looking between 500 and 750 but its just a guess, my 11 year old as just told me we are going after all lol so anyone else down there spot me in my chelsea shirt dont spit on it lol?

Well I have just come back from their and I think they will sell out before everyone in the queue gets one.

The queue was still huge the full length of the store then folding back on itself.

My GF got hers because we waited a few people from the front at 10:30 (yay :()

I knew the plot a few days ago, been itching to tell her hehe :p

well went and got slinky harry potter book went at 12 to asda saw queue and left and went to the works on broadway and was back home for 12:20 i was the first in the works lol
:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:p:p:p:p:p:p

I take it not much of a queue at The Works then? I had thought of going there but Busman thought ASDA was better because there you could queue inside.

I wonder how many people will buy it and never read it? They just got caught up in the hysteria of it all. :D
