Two articles in the newspaper today have really got me in a quandary. In one there is the good news that regularly eating chocolate (either milk or dark) makes it 11% less likely that a person will suffer a heart attack or stroke. However, on another page it states that if a person has trouble getting to sleep it is 4 times more likely they will have a stroke, and for someone having a sleep disorder it is more than twice as likely they will have a heart attack than a person who sleeps well.

Now my problem is this, I love milk chocolate and rather more than regularly partake of it. That’s the good news. Now I have a very good excuse why I should continue to do so. On the other hand I find it hard to get to sleep, and I have very bad sleeping habits, so where does that leave me?

Does this mean I have to often eat a big bar of chocolate to counter the ill-effects of my erratic sleeping behaviour, and if I do will everything be hunky-dory?

Found the answer, it’s OK. I’ve just reread the second article – the study was only conducted on men aged between 25 and 64, and as I am female and not between those ages anyway I’m going to assume it doesn’t apply to me. That’s feminine logic for you.

On the other hand I can now go away and happily relax with some chocolate knowing I am doing this for medical reasons. I will make a supreme effort and force myself to eat the family-sized block. After all I am also doing it for my family.

Just take all these research studies with a large pinch of salt......they are mostly meaningless unless you know who paid for them(most are commissioned by some business with a vested interest....and the data they leave out is just as telling as what they put in).
Carry on enjoying the chocolate......stop worrying about poor sleep habits....live your life how you want to live it.......and be aware that none of us get out of it alive :D

Yes, Margaret, it did cross my mind that maybe some chocolate manufacturer wanted more profits. Next thing we know there will be a study that shows chocolate is bad for you. Well they will continue to get my patronage, good or bad as it might be to eat the stuff will make no difference.

These research studies are a bit of a hoot at times, and I agree - they should all be taken with a pinch of salt.

Hang on a mo! I thought salt in big lumps was bad for you? Still, I suppose it means more chokky as a counter measure, more female logic perchance? :)
