Our State elections are coming up soon, not that it affects anyone who doesn’t live in South Australia, but I thought I’d write a bit about it. Voting is compulsory here so I have to put my mark somewhere on the sheets. There is one for the Legislative Council and one for the Lower House (and believe you me the lower house is as low as you can go these days).

I am in a quandary. I have no idea who to vote for, there are three main lots – and some strange others, for instance one such is ‘Horse Racing is For Jobs’ or something like that – now I ask you! For once I am tempted to write a not-very-nice message across my ballot papers as I don’t think any of them are worth the lead in the pencil or the ink in the biro. Of course if I did that my vote would be invalidated.

Then I think of the Suffragettes who chained themselves to the railings and suffered great hardships to help get women the vote…am I letting them down? If I don’t vote for someone then I won’t be able to moan about whoever gets in and the promises they are sure to break. Isn’t that par for the course.

Of the three main lots one party has been in for 16 years – have spent a lot of money, have made some horrendous mistakes, have not overseen the areas they should have, and are now making promises I’m sure they know they can’t keep.

Then we have an Opposition who are as weak as water. Enough said about them. The other lot are a new Party formed by a man who is turning out to be a show pony. Heaven help us!!!!!

The Federal lot are as bad. You think you have a right bunch of whatevers running the country over there, well you should try some of ours. I’m surprised they are not the laughing stock of the world – or maybe they are. Rather than getting on with the business they are paid well to do, i.e. run the country, they seem to delight in wasting their time slinging mud at each other.

Not long ago a number of ministers had to resign because they held dual citizenships with another country, sorry that’s not the done thing – only allegiance to Australia is allowed. Both sides of the political arena were scrambling to find out who they could point the finger at in this regard to get rid of them. Talk about mud-raking. Some of these ministers were genuinely unaware of their dual citizenship (though the one who said his mother had made him an Italian citizen without telling him sounded a bit iffy to me – especially as he said it was when he was 25!). The saga of who was ‘attached’ to another country as well as here is because of parentage, grand-parentage, etc., etc., and quite unfair in some cases. But in others…….

The latest carry-on is about a man who reached high places both in his Party and the Government until he did a bit of ‘partying’ of his own with one of his staffers and he came off his pedestal with a crash. Apparently had done a bit of extra-marital ‘cooking’ – to put it crudely there’s a bun in the oven which seemed to prove it. Now it appears that the dates don’t add up and at THE crucial time of conception he was thousands of miles away (was actually with his wife). So either it was a very far-reaching relationship (take that as you will) or another one of those happenings like the one some 2000 years or more ago.

Talk about Nero fiddling while all around him, etc., etc.……there seems to be a lot of Nero’s around the place. It's time they did what they are paid to do and also bring some dignity and respect to Government, there's little there at the present time. The Prime Minister has actually issued an edict to his ministers, no sex with staffers. Honest! Seems that sex has a lot to answer for. Maybe a good idea would be to put locks on zippers and leave the key at home, and bring back the good old chastity belt. That should do the trick.

Anyway I’ve digressed – sex tends to make you do that, so back to the subject of my vote – do you know I think I’ll give it to the bloke whose platform is Horse Racing is for Jobs, at least I won’t have wasted the paper or the ink and I won’t have let my Suffragette sisters down. I know this party doesn’t have a hope in hell of getting in – oops! I’ve just remembered that’s what they said about the Trump fellow.
