hot and bothered.

It seems like my last journal stirred up some happy memories for some of the peole who read this stuff. Isn't it a shame the kids of today will not have the same kind of memories? I know they will have memories of their own, but they won't be of unfettered days of playing out, and doing the things that we did.....so sad!

Well, today it has been as hot as the hobs of hades. Normally hubby and I have a wander round the market. This is as much a social thing as a shopping thing. We meet folk and have a bit of a chat.......and probably exasperate those folk who have more things to do......but hey, aging has to have some compensations.
I was up early today as we were having the joiner come to fit a couple of glazed internal doors. Hubby dropped me off in town and said to phone him when I wanted a lift back. I had a mooch around the shops....I didn't buy very much....hubby is the one who goes into shops and picks up things that we 'might' use.........I am not so easily seduced (though I DO like a bargain).
It was getting hotter and hotter in the town centre and it was only a little after 10 am. I had done everything that I had gone into town to do. So I phoned home knowing that he would be in.....I let the phone ring several times and eventually the answer machine kicked in.....I didn't leave a message because hubby has no idea how to retrieve one if I did.
I walked over to the Aldi car park and tried again.......still no answer.
Where on earth was he?
I sat on the wall at the end of the Aldi car park for a few minutes and tried again......still no answer. I was getting a bit mad......No, I was getting damn mad.
I set off walking and walked up Devonshire Street........mainly because it was in the shade. In the end I had walked almost to the Crown before I tried again....this time he answered.
'Where have you been?' I asked tersely.
'I was out on the front' he said.
'I thought you said you would pick me up'
'I will, where are you?'
I told him where I was, and that I wasn't impressed that he had not stayed in earshot of the phone.
He blustered a bit and said he would come and pick me up. I told him not to bother now as I was almost home.

I did the remainder of the walk home in about ten minutes....but I was truly hot and bothered by the time I got home.......he was grinning from ear to ear when I got back. I told him that I wasn't impressed and he should have listened out for the phone....then I stormed off upstairs and took all my clothes off and hopped into the shower to cool off.......both my temper and my skin sizzled as the cool water cascaded down over me.

Hot weather is not good for tempers is it?
If I had done the same thing to him he would have gone off like a rocket...but when he does it, his answer is 'it's not the end of the world, is it?'
Well today, it nearly was for him. GRRRRRRRRRRR!

Ooooh Margaret, my dad is full of those tricks as I'm sure that most men are. Let me know if I have to pop round to yours with a shovel... :-)
