I am in the unfortunate group of wrinklys who have been advised to self isolate from this weekend.
That is what the government think that we should do...stay indoors.
Not shop, or go out and about for bus rides, or meet friends and have lunch out.
They think that this will go some way to protecting us from the Wuhan flu(yes...I know it isn't called that...officially it is Covid 19).
there has been little or no advice on how we are supposed to get our grub, or how we can pay our bills...get to medical appointments and get the medicines that many of our age bracket need to keep them ticking over.
At first, they suggested that us coffin dodgers should sign up to have our groceries delivered.
this did not take into account that many in our age bracket have neither internet nor smart phone to do this(yes...I know I have internet...but I know lots that do not...or have it but cannot use it effectively).
Then came a bit of a bombshell from the supermarkets.
They were taking no new subscribers and if they were the delivieries would be sometime in April.
Not much good if you are down to the dregs of the milk bottle...or the mouldy old crust off a loaf.
Many of this generation will have little in the way of support...and if they did...well they are the 'I don't want to be a bother' brigade.
So will not ask...I know this to be true as i am one of these.
I want to be a helper...not one who is helped.
Then there is the thorny problem of how to occupy the time...we are being asked to be incarcerated for 4 months...that is a long time.
Heck some criminals get lighter sentences than that...they get community orders.
I can see me having to dig a hole and bury all the sharp implements....because I can tell you that being cooped up with my other half might lead to one of us doing the other one in, if we can't get from under one anothers feet.
Dame Esther Rantzen has suggested that we write a book about our lives.....well that is all well and good if you can remember all of it(I can, but he can't...and I am not telling you anything that he would not say himself).
We should take up drawing....or painting....or sewing.
We should read, we should do some gentle stretching exercises(that is ok as long as it is not someones neck you are stretching).
We can have long lie ins.
we can do puzzles, or watch TV....how much Judge Judy you can stand is debatable.
I think for me I would probably write more blogs....though some of them may reflect the 'brown phase' I was feeling.
I could also do to reorganise my craft room(it is a back bedroom really).
I could practise my brush writing.....work out some new card designs....hone my artistic skills.
I actually quite like my own company...if it were not for the irritant that my other half sometimes becomes.
I actually like silence....no TV on, no radio....just peace.
Whereas, he would probably want to go through the whole back catalog of Sherlock Holmes films(they put my teeth on edge)....or watch reruns of inane comedy shows that I practically know word for word.
You can see now why I will have to hide the sharp implements.
I think I could occupy my time reasonably well.
All these pursuits are fine and dandy if it is what you choose to do...but are irksome if you are forced into doing them...when what you really want to do is enjoy the blossom on the trees, see the roses bloom.
This four month incarceration will take us through the spring and into the summer(well, that is if we survive the attempts at murder, the virus, or the suicidal thoughts).
It would be interesting to know what you think of all this and whether you are going to abide by the directions(especially, if like me you feel fit and well).
I have not yet decided what I will do.....the law abiding side of me says stay home...but the rebel in me says 'bu88er it...life's short get out and live'
