So once again it's that time of year ! I'm creeping ever closer to being ..... Dun Dun Dah ! an old fart 
Already been in training for the past couple of years calling these noisy youngsters for all kinds & having a grump about the bloody Politicians, gawd awful noise the kids call music, state of the Nation & how things were so much better in my day I'll tell you ! Eeh I'm sounding more & more like me Owd Dad ! 
Seem to remember him chuntering on about the same thing when I were a callow, exuberant youth in my late teens looking to the sneaking 20's. The whole World was laid out in front of me & there was nothing anyone could tell me about anything, I didn't actually know it all but I'm pretty sure I knew better than all them Ol' Boogers ! 
My how things change ! I sometimes wonder how I managed to survive these last 2 score years & 6 without (a) Killing myself (unintentionally of course) (b) Someone else (Any one of the 'Erberts who class themselves as friends ? Although one more than others springs to mind Shrek !) or (c) Inflict serious damage upon ones person ! Just lucky I guess or more likely there has been some proper grown up around to pick me/us up & point us generally in the right direction most of the time.
Due to these timely interventions I am now deemed to be a responsible Adult ???
Who are they kidding ? I'm expected to set examples which I invariably do especially when accompanied by my side kick but for some reason we aren't held up as shining lights, the comment "And that's how your supposed to behave !" is more often than not pronounced as " If you don't you'll end up like those 2 !" more a sort of cautionary note as a paradigm of excellence ! 
Although time itself is fairly adamant that I'm "Of an age" I personally can't or more accurately don't want to see it. Were possible Shrek & Donkey will be off on an adventure somewhere, 14 years old, scuff kneed & snotty nosed with shirt tails hanging out but, and it's a big but, with the advantage of legally being allowed to imbibe in the joys of Alcohol in all its variances (Oh dear !). So old I may be outwardly, but inside ..... I suppose at some point I'll settle, but where opportunity arises, let the games commence ! Is there somewhere an official guide line as to when & how we become old ? A sort of ageist Almanac with definitions of decrepitness ? If there is could someone please hide it ?
Since we don't appear to have this tome of time one can then assume age & irascibility can be sort of put in the "to do" file of life for a little while longer at least ? It certainly ain't going anywhere as we blithely hurtle on towards it at some way up the road of life, probably in the company of a traffic Copper with a speeding ticket & court summons !
There's always someone out to pish on your bommy isn't there ! Well that's by the by, so far I've avoided the most of them & I intend to continue along lifes highway, grumping, laughing, ducking & diving & the devil take the hindmost until eventuality & fate blows the engine. The same goes for all you out there, remember somewhere there's always an older fart than you ! Now who's chuckling ?
