Today I have been on the bus to Blackburn.
I didn't go for anything in particular...just a mooch round the shops.
Blackburn shopping centre is getting dire, but not quite as dire as Accrington.
I went out and stood in Blackburn Road waiting for the bus to arrive.
I had been there only a few minutes when a young fellow came to the bus stop......all the way down the road I could see him talking...and gesticulating.
I really didn't think anything of it at the time...well, I thought perhaps he was talking on his mobile phone...with one of those 'blue-tooth' things......I couldn't see his ears as he had his hood up (well, it was raining).
As he drew closer, it was obvious that he wasn't using a mobile phone but was having a real two and eight with his alter ego....the sad thing was....he wasn't winning!
I'm not making fun of anyone with mental health problems, but to be honest I found it a bit scary....and I don't really scare easily.
After all what harm can come to you when you are at a bus stop in broad daylight, on a main road?
No...No, don't answer that question.
It seemed to be ages before the bus came and he was effing and jeffing...to nobody in particular.
I avoided eye contact with him and stood in the drive of someones garden.
At last(late) the bus came bowling down the road......I let him get on first.......I wanted to avoid him sitting next to me......anyway as it was he went upstairs, and I relaxed.
When I go out for bus rides I tend to listen to the conversations of Old ladies(OK, I know I'm one of them too)......I find them very amusing because they are usually talking about their own ailments or someone they know who is in a 'bad way' in hospital.
I know it is bad mannered to eavesdrop, but I just can't help it.
Anyway, a lot of these ladies could whisper over three fields(SheffielD, Huddersfield and Chesterfield).
Today was no exception.
A little old lady got on the bus at Rishton and sat in front of an elderly couple, who she was obviously familiar with, but hadn't seen for quite a while.....the conversation went something like this:-
'Eeeeh, hello Cissie, haven't seen you for ages'
'No, I haven't been able to get about much recently.
I had me bunions done in the hospickle and I got that CSA bug......ooh, I was proper poorly......they called the priest you know'
'Eeeh, Cissie what a bad do...but are you alright now?'
'Well....so-so, you know......this getting old is no fun is it?'
'And what is your Cyril doing with himself these days?'
'Well, not a lot......he died you know...two years ago last December.
Eeh, it were a bad Christmas that were.
I went upstairs and left him watching the TV...and when I came down in the morning, he were stone cold....gone'
'Oooh Cissie, I am sorry to hear that...still he didn't suffer did he?'
'Well, no....the Doctor said he wouldn't have known anything about it like......but I do miss him...even though he could be an awkward Bu88er'
And sad to say this is where I had to get off the bus.......I wished I has asked for a ticket to Preston so that I could have heard more of the story.
Like I say, I know you shouldn't eavesdrop, but I can't help it!
