I don't think........

I will be able to ignore it much longer.
Ignore what? I hear you ask.

The festive Season....Christmas.
It is everywhere you look.
I have tried to ignore the coloured flashing Christmas lights as I take the tinlids back home...but the coloured beams insinuate themselves under my eyelids.
I went to Asda today. Outside where the trolleys are normally housed, there are Christmas trees.
Just inside Asda are baubles berries and tinsel. I think I am allergic to berries and tinsel!

There I was telling myself that christmas was weeks of...well, yes it is....but only three weeks off.
And today, while I was having a scale and polish(then a filling) the dentist was asking me if I was doing anything 'nice' for Christmas.
I told him that if being buried up to your elbows in a turkeys bum was nice then the answer was 'Yes'....this was, of course, after he had removed his gloved fingers from my gob.

As I walked back into town to meet up with himself, I rather wished that I could hibernate and wake up when all the geegaws and tinsel are down and we are back to normality.

Do you know you can't get paint sprayers masks in the pound shops at this time of year? They have been removed to make way for greetings cards and Christmas baubles.

I didn't want them for spraying paint.....but for himself to wear when he is cutting wood with the circular saw.....don't really want him getting lungs full of fine saw dust.

At Christmas time, if I don't do it, then it doesn't get done.
One year (pretty soon) I am going to defy tradition and refuse to buy any presents, buy, write and post Christmas cards, do any festive shopping or cooking. And I will see what sort of impact this has.

Anyway, this year I have had to give in.

I have bought and wrapped a few presents today...half heartedly written the cards that can be hand delivered......and I have thought about what we might have to eat.
(despite what I said to the dentist, it won't be turkey - c'mon, allow me some artistic licence)

I think it iwll be a Sunday lunch - except it will be on a Wednesday.
I'm not doing a starter, or a pudding. Neither of our waistlines needs any help in stretching our pants.
There just might be a little w(h)ine...but he will just have to get used to it :D

I bought my Christmas cards today ... now I have to get em written and sent to Ireland .. I bought 2 pressies yesterday just another 18 to go ...

oh and don't need to bother putting mi Christmas tree up ... its been up since last year ...:D well I didn't come back from the spugsters till after 12th night ... so its bad luck to take it down after that aint it ... :p

They sell them masks in Wilkinson's
we are having goose this year already on order from Tesco
over the last few years we/me has had chicken, turkey, beef, bambie, skippy, as the wife calls it and would not eat it lobster, crab, salmon, on different years for Christmas dinner so its goose this year:D

Hope you enjoy it Mick.
I think we will be having Pork....with crunchy crackling.
Ma loves the crackling and I always give her a good sized portion of it.
I might do a casserole on the Sunday before Christmas...with big herby dumplings.

We are like you Margaret, not the most christmassy people on the planet, We have started going out fer christmas dinner the other year, n also go away very early jan every year, it seems to make the whole caboodle more bearable fer us.:D;)

Cashy....if it works for you then go for it.
Circumstances don't permit us that luxury right now.....but where do you go to avoid the false bonhomie of Christmas.

It is all aimed at winkling as much money out of our pockets as possible...nothing at all to do with peace and goodwill to your fellow man.
As each year passes I find it more tiresome and I sound really carmudgeonly.....it(Christmas) is all so fake.

Jen, I hope the good luck outweighed the bad stuff.
In our house to deflect the bad luck of having left a decoration up beyond 12th night......it has to be left in place until the night before Shrove tuesday and then it has to be burned on shrove Tuesday and with the heat from the flames, a pancake must be made and eaten.
This is a really difficult task if the item is not combustible...hence I always make sure nothing is left up.

There will be nothing left up this year as I don't think I will be putting anything up, other than cards.

The good thing about it only being three weeks away, is that it'll soon be over with! I particularly dislike people like store clerks or my hairdresser constantly asking "Are you ready for Christmas yet?" I always answer no, in a way that dissuades them from continuing the conversation. Mean of me, I know, but one just gets fed up with it all. Sometimes, and quite rarely, something happens unexpectedly at Christmas - some kindness shown or warmth expressed when I least expect it. A stranger opening a door, or a customer expressing their appreciation. That for me is the best part of Christmas - people trying their best to be good, and that makes me try a little harder too.

Well these days I am feeling a little more benign towards Christmas, possibly because my family have been through some hard times this year - not just just me - my 83 yr old cousin in Accy as well.

We are having rib of beef for our meal - not something I have cooked for a very long time but I'm sure it will be yummy... and I have bought a Fair Trade pudding to follow...

Anyway I had better say it to all my Accyweb friends before I forget... Greetings of the season and many blessings to you all and may you have an enjoyable time however you choose to spend it.

I hope you have lovely day Sue.

I hope that Christmas is peaceful and pleasant, and that the New year is kinder to you than the old one has been.

I will compose my greetings to my Accyweb friends in a blog nearer the time

all Christmas pressies bought ... now to write the cards and get em posted ... and to wrap all the pressies ive bought ....

I always thought if Christmas decorations were left up after 12th night that they had to stay up all year .... that's what my mum always said ...
