ive just aquired an ibm 17 inch flatscreen.the thing is i switch it on it comes on for about ten seconds then the screen goes black. ive checked cables they are alright any ideas anybody...

I take it you plugged it into a PC. They go off if there is no signal to them.

dont be silly:Dive plugged it in it comes up alright for about ten seconds then the screen goes black.if i pull the power cable out and put it back in it comes on for another ten seconds..

if your graphics card worked before it should be ok still, if the resolution was not ok for the flat screen it would not come on at all. You should not need drivers either. Sounds like a power supply fault in the screen to me. Bin it.

It does sound like a monitor fault as Neil said. I would look at the power lead for the monitor, just make sure that there are no loose connections and swap the lead from the monitor to the PC or at least check it as best as possible. Worth a try if nowt else.

are you sure you are driving it with teh right res?

set it to something low like 800x600 to start nwith and work up to its native res

ya beauty its the bulbs i shined a torch on it and you could just see the page.prob cost twenty quid which is brilliant because i got the monitor for 2 quid today.retails over 5oo squid...cheers for that emzy :)

the picture comes on perfect and then goes black but if i shine torch on it from an angle you can just see it....

no it never worked and i shone the torch on it and you could just see the page yeeeeeessss going to look round for quotes on monday...it explains when that happens its only a minor problem the bulbs or some need replacing..:):mosher:
