Thanks Lettie for your help with my positive visualisation technique.......I will try that and see what happens.......if anyone in the neighbourhood of Clayton hears any blood curdling screams after midnight....you'll know that the dentist doesn't use anaesthetic
........no, it pays to have an ace in the hole doesn't it? I was rummaging in hubbys medication drawer and I have found two rather mouldy looking Diazepam 5mg.......I'm sure that they are out of date....but if the nerves do get to me then I may just be tempted to risk taking at least one of them!
Has anyone else noticed that the nights seem to be drawing in rather rapidly? One of the things that our Aussie visitors couldn't get over was that it was light for so long in the evening. Over there the night comes on rapidly.......a bit like someone turning the lights out.....and it is REALLY dark where they live.......there is no light pollution. I didn't think I was scared of the dark....but to be honest I never liked to be out in the paddock without the torch.....you never could be sure what kind of venomous creature could be lurking where you might put your feet.
In fact it brings to mind one evening when we over there in the early 80's.
We had been out to the local RSL club..... a place where you can get lovely meals and the beer is cheap and they have pokies......that's one armed bandits to you........at the time it was not legal to have these machines in the State of Victoria....but that was OK because we were just over the border in NSW.......coachloads of folk would come up for the weekend...to drink, party and play the pokies.
We had had a lovely meal.....lots of drinks......and generally had a good time. We didn't want the evening to end so it was after 2am when we finally got back to the homestead. I got changed for bed.....washed my face and settled down for a good sleep. I had been in bed for maybe an hour when all the drinks I had consumed seemed to converge on my bladder. The toilet was outside........up the paddock. I got up and went to the back door.......I looked out and apart from the milky way, the sky was as black as the devils nutting bag. I was bursting for a pee......but remembered that red back spiders have a tendency to lurk under a toilet seat. I really didn't fancy getting my bum bitten by one of those.....I mean, you'd really find out who your friends were if you went back and asked them to suck the poison out of that wouldn't you?
What were my options.......I could go back to bed and hold my water until it got light.......at least another three hours before that happened.......I could risk the trek across the paddock and hope that the spiders wouldn't like the look of my bum........I could stand on the veranda and pee where I stood....and hope it would dry as it got light....or I could pee in the bath.
Which option do you think I took....? Yeah, I peed in the bath. I did give it a good swill after I had relieved myself.
