Irons Match Thread

Speaking of the new stand, what was the atmosphere like today? On my rare trip north for the Gills game, I thought it was very flat except for the first and last 15 minutes- maybe because of the open side?

You mean the usual vocal crescendo from the Scrattin' Sheds was missing? Maybe it was the result?

Atmosphere was average. Not on par with in ultra hey days of mid/late noughties or the big games or when we take alot away. But better than three/four years ago. The bit extra numbers helps a little. I encourage all those whom attend to make a racket as I do think it helps the players and are team. A small group sung quite a bit for most of game but we did have quiet moments (rarely heard Scunthorpe fans throughout the game).

Better team without KEE what are you on. We would have been 2 or 3 goals up with Kee getting the service he could have had today if fit,as for Zanzala has he really played football before, on todays show it sure didn't look like it.

get well soon Billy.

agree with you about billy. they were there for the taking and it felt like 2 points lost for me. as for zanzala he can only get better.

Oh i think at 19 he can probably get better! but will never attain League 1 standard, but possibly get good enough for the Conference. Personally i hope the new loanees are ok and we never see him again.

And that is that !!... 😎

ZZZZZZZ !...🤐

In the cold light of day, we played really well first half without finishing anything, was alaways gonna be hard with our main 2 strikers from last season absent, but cant understand why what i regard our main threat from corners was absent? Sykes to me should have played, hes a decent threat from sean macs corners, no doubt at all to me. we didn't seem to have anyone that looked like getting on the end of em to me.

I think some are being a bit harsh on Zanzala, he hasn't played much yet & suddenly is thrown up front on his own for 90 minutes - ok, Mangan came on late on supposedly to help him out but in my book he was conspicuous by his absence.
In the first half we could've/should've had three or four but in the second half Scunthorpe had obviously had a rocket & came out a different team. Both defences I thought were for the most part, excellent & it became a more even contest.
Once we get that first home win (& it'll most likely come next week when I can't be there!) we'll be fine - I'm quite happy with 8th place at the moment & being unbeaten in 5 games, especially when the 'experts' had us down as relegation fodder before a ball had been kicked (nothing unusual in that though).
At the end of the day, we're in a tougher league & our new players are still settling - I've no worries at all that we can't hack it in League 1 :)

Got to agree there Cashy.
After all the praise young Sykes has received lately I was amazed he was dropped to the bench.
Anderton looks a class act at left-back, but I can't say I'm overly impressed by Ihiekwe.
IMHO both Big Ben & Sykes are as good & have the added advantage of height.
Plus, they've both shown they can hit the back of the net given the chance.

I think that Sykes will continue to miss odd games through rest. He's young and needs mental rest as much as physical rest, or so football pundits will tell you

Everyone has different views, i think he needs match experience to learn the game. it aint as if hes not playing well? thats the time to rest in my view.

You mean Zanzala ?
He's 21 - 22 later this year.
He's had 12 starts across his career and has one goal - a penalty.
To be fair to the lad he did have a nasty injury and I cant help feeling that has set him back considerably. He missed a full season with an ACL injury.

Fair enough with the age, that makes it worse to me.;)

How did Zanzala play?
Worth persevering with?

I know some fans for strange reasons don’t like giving individual player reviews (???) but be grateful if any real fans wish to provide ratings for those of us who couldn’t attend.

Zanzala played quite well for me and he is worth persevering with but he should have scored a couple of goals yesterday.

Ratings?!?...Here goes;:egged:

Ripley K+
Johnson 2 to 8
Hughes XXX
Eckylad 69
Atherton AA
Clarke 300%
Finlay 707
Brown 666
Coneely SAS
Zanzala C-
McConville 28 1/2

Hope this helps Dav!But you will have to work out mys system!:mosher:

By the way Stanley SHOULD have won 6 - 0!

Jordan's had a great start to the season. OK missed a couple but if it wasn't for the woodwork .............
Yet again albeit for a short spell he looked the part down the left.
For me I'd take a chance on him in the Finlay role.
