Please, please...... don't tell me that the recent warm spell was summer.
Ironic isn't it? The week before the school holidays and the sun is cracking the flags.
As soon as the tinlids break up, the weather takes a turn for the worse......and we all need to dig out our vest and put the central heating back on.
It was the same before the Easter Holidays too.
The children were looking forward to spending time polishing their cycling skills.......and it was cold and wet.
This time, they were looking forward to the Jubilee celebrations and a street party.
It all turned out to be a damp non event....with lots of buffet food and iced cupcakes languishing in kitchens up and down the road.
While the children have been off school , it has been Miss Bossy Drawers 7th birthday.
She had a list of presents she was requesting.....it was as long as your arm, and would cost an arm and a leg.
A BMX bike was at the top of the list, a grown up camera was second.
I should say at this point - she was given a camera at Christmas, but was very disappointed to find out it was one of those Kiddi-Zoom cameras. Didn't Santa know that these were for babies...or at least little children?....Hence the request for a grown up camera......in pink....and with a pink leather case.
She also wanted a Bop-it....a Wenlock Olympic Mascot, a Hello Kitty filled pencil case, some clothes....the list went on and on.
She also wanted a party......not a party at home, but at one of these party venues......a Pirates and Princesses party.
She didn't get the bike, she didn't get the Wenlock Mascot, she didn't get the Hello Kitty filled pencil case.
Her Mum and dad bought her a Bop-it.......I bought her some clothes....white pants, a selection of fashion tops, and a flowery rain jacket.........I was toying with buying her a camera...but decided not to...then changed my mind.(you have to encourage creative talent). But on the morning of her birthday I gave her the clothes and kept the camera back - she looked very disappointed....with a look that said quite clearly - as clearly as if she had said it out loud 'Is that all there is?'
She didn't get the camera until the evening of her birthday......yes it is pink, it has a pink case and she is itching to use it........and all it has done(the weather), is rain.
She brought her camera over to our house yesterday with the hope that we could go along the canal bank to take pictures of the swans and their cygnets, the ducks and their ducklings.
What's the betting that when they go back to school next week the weather will take up?
Well, we can but hope!
