It was me.......
I won the lottery in December and all due to a twist of fate. I'm not a massive believer in fate or what comes around goes around although, those are the sort of things which everybody says or partially believes. I have had to have a bit of a change of heart though.
There I was in WHSmiths, early December, queueing to put my lottery numbers on. My well worn ticket with my usual numbers was neatly folded in my hand awaiting scanning. I always put just one line on for saturdays and usually do 4 weeks at a time, it's all there, ready prepared on my ticket. I don't know why I bother really because I have only won about 3 lots of £10 since the bloody thing started.
My turn came and I gave the lass behind the counter my ticket, she scanned it and said "£8 please."
"£8, said I, I have only put on 4 weeks, it should be £4."
Looking at the ticket, the scanner had given me an extra line where my ticket had been folded. It has been folded in the same place for so long that the machine had read it as another line. The girl behind the counter offered to delete it for me but there was a large queue behind me so I just thought what the heck....
"It's ok, I'll keep the line, you never know, it might be fate," I said rather flippantly.
Four weeks later, not having won a bean, I checked the numbers for the last draw on that ticket. I had 4 numbers on my fate line and won £79. I was really chuffed and realise that it is not a fortune, won't change my life or allow me to help my family out. It will pay for a nice meal out though and my faith in fate has increased.
So Margaret Pilkington, if you read this..... Your camera has broken for a reason, get the new one that you want and create some lovely memories to share with your family. If I'd have got 6 numbers I'd have bought the camera for you...
