It isn't Kind......

Cath, you are right about the biscuits....so after the first bag was finished we looked for alternatives that were still in the weight control range.......and we found some that he likes.......in more than one flavour......so he now has a choice of Lamb with rice, turkey with rice or beef with rice.
He likes this variety better, and although they are still a bit pricey, we don't mind if he is happy. He still gets meat gravy with his biscuits, but will eat them dry...so we put a few aside to give him as treats.

He has now seemed to accept that he doesn't get a chew, but has a large plastic looking bone which he gnaws on....good for his teeth and he seems to like it....though it doesn't smell of anything.
It must taste good because he won't give it up for anything and likes to be able to see it even if he isn't chewing it.
He appears to have got a spring in his step too, so I am wondering if his little bit of weight loss has helped what we presumed was a bit of arthritis in his hips.
And jumping up on the settee seems to be easier for him (I know, he shouldn't....but hubby and him sit together cuddled up in the evening watching the TV).

Hubby and Gizmo walk a circuit of two miles twice a day....all round an industrial complex that is close to us and then back along the canal bank....the lad loves a sniff in the grass, and looks longingly at the ducks on the water.......though I think he knows that there would be little chance of actually catching one.

There is also a place where we see rats on a regular basis and he goes mad here....nose to the ground, in and out of the bushes.
Now one day he lives in hope he will catch one of these and shake it to death.....because ha has been practising the shaking thing with his squishy ball and his bone.

Yes Cashy, it is going to take some doing, but we really don't want to kill this lovely little guy with kindness, because it isn't......kind, that is.

I once looked after my next door neighbour's little dog for 2 weeks whilst they were on holiday. He was lovely, but far too fat and no bounce. I took him on long walks, and only gave him the recommended portion of food for his size. He lost weight really quickly during those two weeks, and the energy he showed seemed to put a smile on his face. Problem was when my neighbours returned, they thought I had been starving him and didn't speak to me properly for months.
Unfortunately, he soon put the weight back on again :(
