It was time for ME!

I have been really busy of late. A full calendar of social events.
Ma had to visit the Doctors twice last week...once for blood tests and the second time for an MOT for her diabetes.
Nicola has been poorly again so I have been helping out over at her house.
On Wednesday it was Parents Evening. The tinlids daddy couldn't get time off work.
Nicola had very little in the way of energy(or inclination) and was talking about having a telephone conversation with the tinlids teachers - yet she wanted to see some of their work.

I asked if it would help for me to go along with her. Yes, she jumped at that suggestion.
So Wednesday she conserved what energy she had and we went along to school, slowly walking along the 'Ash Pad' to the school.
She had to rest outside the school to get her breath back...she said she felt as though she still had her grandma's legs......I told her that this could have been easily remedied if she had also borrowed her grandma's wheelchair.
I told her that I was now very experienced and had my grade five certificate which allows me to go 'off-road' and over hill country....she laughed about that and said she would like to see me going up the hills with her in the chair.
I told her it was alright going up the hill, it was coming down she had to worry about, as the right hand brake is defective.

So Parents evening was done and dusted...and both children are doing well in spite of the difficulties this year has thrown at them...which was good news.
Spindles handwriting has improved. It no longer looks like a crippled spider has fallen in the ink and crawled over the page.

Then after the doctors on Thursday Ma treated herself to a Big Mac meal......it was what she fancied. She reckoned she deserved it for the disruptions that TWO visits to the doctors had created in her life that week.

To make it all seem very healthy she also got a garden salad.
She said that she wouldn't eat all of the Big Mac meal..she would share it with the dog(poor dog)...she also bought a Strawberry milk shake.
I told her that this would bu88er her sugars.....she said she only wanted a taste!

Late Thursday evening she rang me to say that she dind't feel too chipper. I asked if she wanted me to go up and see her - 'NO' was her emphatic reply.
She was very thirsty and she felt a bit 'off'.
I asked her what her blood sugar readings were. She couldn't tell me as she had run out of the little testing strips.(!)
I asked her if she had some diabetic urine testing strips...yes, she had those. I told her to go and pee on one of them and tell me what the reading was.

She went away and did the test.
When she rang me again she told me that it went to 2 per cent right away.
I asked her what she had had to eat and drink...she told me that she had eaten most of the big mac and had all of the milk shake.
Well, then, there you go. That was the reason.

I advised he to adjust her evening meds to try and accommodate this daft thing she had done and told her to drink just water, and to sip it.

I told her that it was daft of her to have as much of the Mac Donkey's food as she had had. she said she didn't care as she had enjoyed it.
How's that then? A diabetic rebel at 86.

I rang her yesterday to remind her to order some test strips, and also asked how she was.

I later went up and took her some boring, healthy food with her shopping.
It was then I decided to ask himself to drop me off in town.
I planned to take the bus to Manchester.
he asked me if I had any money.
'not much' was my reply. 'I won't be needing it - I'm going for pictures, not shopping'

I was just too late for the 11.23 bus, but in plenty of time for the 11.53.

to be continued.

You're a tower of strength for your family, Margaret. It's good that you get some quality 'me time' too. I look forward to your next instalment! (Love the photos by the way).
