It's in.....

The log burner.
I didn't think it would be.....as there was snow and ice on the roof yesterday.
Like Thursday.....I was expecting a call to say that the fitting was being postponed.
Just after 9 am, Wes was stood at my door with his tool bag in his hand.....and lots of plastic sheeting to protect the boards.
He told me that he planned to sweep the chimney....and put the log burner together, then assess the roof to see if he could go up there and put the liner down and put a new chimney pot on.

I expected the sweeping of the chimney to be a really messy job.
It wasn't.
He had something which looked like an oversized spider on the end of a rod.....and lots of extension rods which screwed together.
I should say at this point, he had put a steel plate into the chimney recess.
The steel plate had a flue sized hole in it.....it was through this opening that the sweeping equipment was fed.
The rods were attached to a drill and the chimney was swept in this manner.
I could hear dirt and debris falling, but nowhere near as much as I had expected.
Once Wes deemed the chimney had been effectively swept, a vacuum hose was inserted into the flue hole and all the muck was removed.
No mess at all.
The log burner was then assembled and placed in its permanent home.....stove pipe attached, then the crucial assessment of the roof took place.

Ladders were lifted off the van and placed at the front of the house.
Wes scampered up them like it was no effort at all.(I was just glad it was him going up there and not me)
I waited in anticipation.
It was good to go.....the roof was deemed safe to go on.

The silver corrugated snake that was the liner, was hauled up onto the roof.
The liner was fed down the chimney and connected to the flue pipe.
It was in.

A smoke test was done and the burner was drawing well.....ready to be lit.
Himself was standing by with paper and kindling.
Soon there was a good blaze going......and himself was getting a lesson on feeding the fire, and the control of the air flow.
He asked me to watch too....to take on board the information, but I told him that this was his baby.....and that when it cried, or needed feeding it would be him that would be doing it.(and also cleaning out the mucky bit)

So last night he was in charge of keeping the fire going.

Today he has not been able to light the fire because the chimney breast was having some plastering done, but I am sure he will be rubbing sticks together later tonight.:)

Glad things are falling into place M,you can't beat relaxing and watching the flames as the logs burn it's kind of therapeutic and reminds me of the good old days :)...

...not to mention the saving from not paying into the the big sixes retirement fund ;)

Yes, things are now looking more promising.
The work has been going on since December the 8th... in some form or another.
The decorator is on holiday this week, but will return next week to do some papering(the chimney wall in the living room, and some paintwork)...... It is looking good.
I have just ordered new curtains, and I am looking at big rugs.
The dream is becoming reality....at last!
