It was just Laura and me today. She doesn't go back to school until tomorrow (inset day today) and her mum was at work so we had each other for company.

I got up slowly, as I often do these days, and came downstairs at 9 to find Laura curled up on a sofa in front of the fire, snuggled in her fleecy dressing gown and watching Spongebob on the telly. I had my orange juice then went to make my breakfast porridge. I asked Laura if she'd had her brekky earlier, with her mum. She said no, she hadn't, but she didn't fancy porridge and she'd make herself some toast with chocolate spread. In the interests of an un-chocolate-smeared kitchen worktop I made it for her - very carefully - the bread hasn't to go brown, it must become hot and slightly flushed with the merest hint of a tan. ;)

The rest of the morning was mundane. We both got dressed then I washed up the non-dishwasher stuff while watching the end of Jeremy Kyle, on the kitchen telly, and Laura tidied the sitting room watching Spongebob. I did the carpets with the electric sweeper and she did a bit of half-hearted dusting.

At 12 o clock I nipped to a local grocery store and got some bread and some eggs, then we had lunch about 1 and then Laura went to her bedroom while I tidied round and sorted out a very messy bookcase.

It was nearly 3.30 when she came down again with a sheaf of coloured papers under her arm. She had been drawing with Spirograph (which she got 2 Xmases ago) and she held out the top sheet for me. She had done a Spiro-flower, complete with stem and leaf, and underneath was written,
"To Nana. I love you! Love, Laura".
It made my day and, what's more, it's now bluetacked to the kitchen wall. :)
