do I look bothered?
Nope...just looked in the mirror and there were no tears.
Being told off. When someone thinks they can tell us off, it is usually, either because they think that can control us, or that they know better than us.
I have been told off many times in the past and by some scary people too.
It didn't bother me then and it didn't bother me today.
What was I told off for?
Well, you know how I think I am still a bit of a youngster?
Well I had a whim this morning to change the bed...take the sheets off and get them into the wash and out on the line.
I did this quick sticks......no problems there...nothing with any danger attached to it.
Anyway, we have had a memory foam topped mattress on our bed for about two years now. I never liked it. It was far too hot for me.
Himself bought it without consulting me(which is never a very good plan)......we had previously had a very firm mattress.
I wouldn't get rid of this good firm mattress, because I felt sure that at some stage he would realise what a mistake it was to get one which was soft and squishy...so the firm mattress has languished in our back bedroom.
Himself kept on threatening to get the council to come and remove it......I told him, 'don't you dare'.
Last week at long last, he said he thought we should swap back to the old firm mattress.
So when he was out today I got the old mattress off the bed.
I managed to get it down the stairs...this involved a lot of pushing and panting, grunting and groaning...a lot like childbirth(except, thankfully no baby at the end of it)......I stood the thing up in the lobby and went to get the good mattress from the back bedroom.
Now I don't know whether my strength had been used up getting the mattress down stairs, but I found it really difficult to move the damn thing.
I wanted to have the mattress on the bed and the old mattress outside in the garage by the time himself came back from his Sunday Jaunt....at this rate I didn't seem like I was going to manage it.
I absolutely hate having to ask for help...but on this occasion I felt that there was no real option.
I rang my son in law and explained my predicament. Quick as a flash he was over at my house...now he lift weights for fun, so it was no real strain for him at all.
In five minutes the mattress was where it was supposed to be.....and the bed was made up with fresh clean white sheets...and I was as happy as Larry.
I was not going to mention what I had been up to, that left me ever so slightly breathless and sweaty(now don't get ahead of yourselves here)...but himself went out to the garage to get the veggies out of the back fridge...spotted the mattress and went a bit nuts.
Told me I could have killed myself(well, you would have been alright for cash the insurance would have paid handsomely).
I could have fallen down(it would have been Ok - I had something soft to break my fall - a mattress.Isn't that how the stunt men work?)
Why couldn't I have waited until he got home? he asked.
Because you have to strike while the iron is hot was my reply...and he does make heavy weather of stuff like this.
You don't get old by doing things..or trying to do things...you get old by thinking that age is somehow a barrier to doing things..... that because you have reached a certain figure on the birthday card, you should stop doing things for yourself and let others do them for you.
I always have been an independent baggage. I'm not about to stop any time soon.
We all need a bit of danger and uncertainty in our lives......even if we do get told off.
