A little girl is asking her mum a lot of questions.
She asks 'Mum...how old are you?'
It is very rude to ask a lady her age the mother says.
'Mum...what do you weigh?' the little girls asks.
'Now young lady, you do not need to know that says her mum.
A little while passes and the little girl again asks another question.
'Why did you and my dad get divorced?'
Mother says 'for goodness sake child, don't ask so many questions'.
Next day the little girl goes to school and talks to her older, wiser friend.
She tells her all of the questions she asked and also that her mum would tell her nothing.
Her friend says 'you need to get hold of her driving licence(It's an american joke).....all the information you need is on there.
The litle girl goes home and sneaks a look at her mums driving licence.
At suppertime the little girls says 'Mum...I know how old you are....you are 32......and I know you weigh 120 pounds.....and I KNOW why Daddy divorced you.
You got an F in sex'
That is a joke...it made me smile...in fact it made me laugh.
Jo Brands idea of a joke is not using milkshake to throw on someone whose ideals differ from your own...but to throw battery acid instead.......Although of course she said she would NEVER do that...it was just a fantasy...or was it a joke??
it cannot be both of those things.
If it is a joke, then it was in very poor taste.....but I really believe her when she says it was a fantassy, because a fantasy is something you would do if you thought it would have only pleasurable consequences for you.
Have you noticed how some people will make a crude, rude or just a nasty comment, and then when someone calls them out on it, they will say 'it was just a joke'...but it had their kernel of truth in it.
This crude potty mouthed (so called) comedienne said that she would not apologise for what she said...yet today, she has offered a mealy mouthed apology of sorts...and tried to justify her comments with the fact that women have to put up with far worse jibes every day.
So that makes it alright then does it?
Well. actually...NO it doesn't.
If you have the sensitivity to realise that jibes like this can have far reaching consquences...not least that of making someone feel intimidated or at risk, then surely you have the sensitivity to realise the hurt that can be caused to those who have been unfortunate enough to have such a traumatic thing happen to them...Katie Piper is one of these.
The fault lies partially with the BBC too, this wasn't a live broadcast.
So it was down to the director of the program to pull this nasty jibe(I refuse to sanitise it by calling it a joke)...but then Jo Brand is a left leaning contibutor.
The BBC, whilst supposed to be impartial...is also left leaning.
The program on Radio 4 is called Heresy and is a program that is comtentious and aims to create outrage.....to be provocative and inflammatory.
They should know better.
It is interesting to note that to keep the over 75's free licences, the BEEB says it would have to ditch some of the programs that it makes.....Radio 4 would have been up for the chop....No real loss there then.
Some of the media have said that stopping JO Brand from making such comments would be an assault on free speech.....
hmm, I wonder if they would have said the same had the comment been directed towards an ethnic minority......No, of course they wouldn't.
They would have been up in arms about this 'joke'
So, maybe I am an old fuddy duddy.....someone who doesn't 'get' the new nasty genre of humour.
Maybe my sense of humour needs a bit of polishing with a bit of brasso and a soft cloth.
I am no stranger to dark humour(I was a nurse for almost thirty years and it is what gets you through some of the horrors)......but this was just nasty, nasty, nasty!
