Joy in a Barn!

It's, cold, damp, grey, windy & pishing down outside, Noah's on his way to B&Q to stock up with wood & screws because the voices told him to & any sane, well adjusted person would avoid the great outdoors like the plague right? So therefore that speaks volumes for my rationality then doesn't it, because it was a case of packing the Witch, Bitch & Stitch into the charabanc & with folding seats, wellies, some baggin & a hip flask full of Rum we headed off to a rain sodden field (which on closer inspection resembled a backdrop for the "Swamp thing") peopled with loons of a similar bent dotted around said morass with their caravans & Trekkers!

Aye the silly season has got under way & the Trekker fans are on the road again! :D So by dint of friendship rather than an actual affinity for all things Trekker & rustic we turned up (invited I may add :)) to catch up with these daft Boys & Girls, who for some strange reason get their jollies from trundling round over boggy fields, holding up traffic as they convoy along back roads & country lanes, then sitting under a soggy awning discussing trekkers ..... while supping Ale & charring lumps of meat.(This is where I come into my own :s_aim1:)

Anyways, as previously stated, the weather was atrocious & it wasn't going to get better any time soon. The event was taking place on a field behind the Westerkappeln Trekker museum, whom being also inclined to all things agricultural & "Gerroffa, my land/ Trakker!" where more than willing to house these loons of similar tendencies, plus being business savvy they realise these folks & the hardy souls willing to visit may fancy some victuals or a sup of something or other, hence the barn conversion to a cafe bar open to all & sundry. (Ah the light of enlightenment now spreading across the dear readers face ;))

Being the troopers they are, the exhibitors & their visitors slid, squelched & splashed through the gloop to their delectation, sage & knowing nodding of heads plus general pointing & recollecting of their adventures upon similar bits of kit in the days of their youth, dotage or misbehaving. Then heartened & misty eyed they'd squelch away for a warm & a cup of something or other in the barn. Within the barn, to their further delight were some old dears spinning yarn (seriously, I'm not having you on) even the walls & cubbys were adorned with implements & trappings of agricultural & country life through the years, but mostly it was dry & warm if somewhat smoky due to the bonfire they had blazing away in the hearth. Still, a small price to pay to get away from the sogginess of outside were the rest of us were holding out, brave, foolish & lightly mizzled by alcohol. :D

As the day wore on into eventide, the last of the Trekker fetishist, sated by their days ogling of farm implements & machinery, they wended their way home with a warm glow of contentment upon their souls. We that remained got down to the serious business of Barbying & some gentle supping to ease the days trials & tribulations from our soggy bones. (This is the bit that makes it all worthwhile :)) Fireside banter & gentle ribaldry abounded as Henry & I singed & seared various meats for the faithful, who stoically sat & sipped through the clouds of smoke & the sweet scent of singed fingers, soggy dog & damp earth .... eeh but life's grand! Enduring these hardships with ones fellows, ties an enduring bond & sense of well being to get you along lifes adventure, mishaps & little vagaries & being rather damp & soggy in the process is all part of the tapestry!

That said though, you can only take so much moistness before you head off for somewhere drier ..... and that's exactly what we did! To the Barn, to the Barn, the refrain taken up & executed with alacrity! :do-one:And so it was, we found ourselves within the smoky hallows of the "Scheune" with its blazing bonfire, implement & vassal adorned walls & niches! All drinks €1.00 (happy days) & the smokerists amongst them allowed to fag it openly (I even had a Cigar or two). A million miles from the "Eurovision political alliance & ludicroisity, UK null punkt carry on", immersed by the gentle thrum of happy, Ale addled chatter of contented Trekkerists just being themselves. At some point I must've began to gibber & I must admit I committed the cardinal sin of knocking over half a glass of my Ale! I know, shameful & disgraceful behaviour, totally reprehensible, head hung in shame & apologies all round, the "Kamp Kommandant" (Marion) marched me off in disgrace!(Through the grinning fizzogs of those allowed to play out longer & who hadn't spilt!) Next thing we're back in the motor, it's homeward bound & you, get to bed!

So there you go Folkses, another chapter in the Life of the Germing Williamses! Incidentally before partaking to much of the grain, I took down some dates for future events, looks like July is due to be pretty hazy! :D I'll need to form an escape committee it seems. ;)

So wishing you all well & stay safe in your endeavours, thanks for reading ..... :couchplus

Sounds as if you had a great day in spite of the wetness(inside and out).
Great pics Son. Number three reminds me of a German 'all you can eat' restaurant in the suburbs of Melbourne......and the awful experience of eating a bit of smoked eel(well, I only chewed it twice and then spit it into a flower vase(I know, I know...bad form for someone who was brought up better).
More please!(but not smoked eel)
