Kitchen Gadgets

Today I have just climbed down from the great mount Potato.....yes I know that there are only two of us, but I actually cook for six people......three local pensioners, Ma and us.
Today being Tuesday it was Cottage pie(they like regimented meals, the pensioners do) hence the peeling of many spuds......and when I thought I had peeled enough and started chopping them, some of the spuds i had peeled had great black blemishes in the middle of the spuds....grrrrr, which meant more peeling.
I am very pernickety about how I peel my spuds too.......I can't be doing with thick peelings.....it means you are wasting lots of stuff you could be eating...so it has to be a lancashire peeler.
Cashy mentioned about an electric spud peeler........he says that his lady loves hers.......I'm not much into kitchen gadgets.
Gadgets...yes....kitchen gadgets noooooooooo!
I have the standard electric kettle, a toaster and an electric carving knife......I don't have a food processor, deep fat fryer, bread maker, a mixer or anything like that.......they all need to be stored somewhere....and when they have been used they are usually a bummer to clean.
A couple of weeks ago himself bought me a halogen oven....you know the kind of thing...sits on the counter top and looks a bit like a small version of an alien spaceship.

Where is this halogen oven.......sat on the floor in my front room still in its box.

Daughter got one at the same time as me, she has used hers every day since she got hers and says it is brilliant.......I should add that hers is being used so much because her main oven died!

She has cooked chicken in it, cakes, pizza(home made) and various other things......and she says that the roasties she did for Sunday dinner were just the best ever.

So when am I going to use mine? GOK(God only knows)......but I guess it will be when I have cleared a space for it to live.

the spud peeler aint a bummer to clean, dead easy, just swill wi cold water, says the guy who cleans it.:)

Yeah Cashy......but where would I put it?
Himself would be forever berating me buying stuff and not using it......because I would automatically reach for the peeler...cheaper too.

I got a great potato peeler on the market Marg, only three quid but well worth it. It is a "Titan Turbo" and so easy to use with hardly any waste:)

I've seen them Bernie....they are a lot like a lanky peeler...well the concept is the same, but a bit more streamlined.....when mine wears out, I'll buy one:D

was brought up peeling all veg with a knife. my dad bought my mum a proper peeler .. she used it once and went back to a knife .. when i was in school and doing cookery all but one of the teachers told me to use a peeler rather than a knife .. the one who didnt was my sisters mother in law to be and she knew my mum!!! lol Ive still got the old copper bottom chip pan .. but im not allowed to use it .. theyve told me to get a deep fat fryer .. but i nowhere to put it. So its oven chips for me. But i no kitchen gadgets at all except for a kettle .. no electric carving knife - use a carving knife, no toaster - use the grill pan. hang on .. i got one of them sandwich makers - that lives in the bottom of the pan cupboard.... hasnt been used for a couple of years!!! I forget all about it .. too much hassle. Im an old fashioned girl .. brought up old fashioned way ..

I have a grill too...but it is on one of these new fangled ovens......not eye level....so I can get down to watch the toast burn:D, but It takes a hoist and pulleys to get me back up again...hence the toaster.
I'm an old fashioned girl too.:)
