Not being used to having to share a room with Debs, I thought I would get my ablutions done early. I woke up about 6am.....Debs was still fast asleep. I crept off to the bathroom.....didn't turn on the light......and fortunately I managed to skirt round the furniture. Usually when you are trying to make as little noise as possible you either bump into something and damage your anatomy.....or failing that knock something over. I didn't do either of those things.
I got into the shower not realising how noisy the damn thing would be.....the old plumbing rattled and moaned. I might as well have sung in the shower. It woke Debs up and within a couple of minutes she was pounding on the door wanting a 'P'.......I told her to come in with her eyes shut. I didn't want to put her off her breakfast.
Once I finished my shower and hairwashing I went back into the bedroom and Debs was having a fag and a cup of coffee. It was a 'NO SMOKING' room so the window was flung open to let the fumes out. It was a bit draughty I can tell you. I asked Debs if I had kept her awake with my snoring......she told me that I had been as quiet as a mouse and she hadn't heard a peep out of me......AND she hadn't used the ear plugs.
We had to get down to breakfast early as we were going off to spend the day in Exeter. Debs had brought her Christmas shopping vouchers and wanted to get her gift shopping done. I was quite content to amble round the shops and just browse. Muti decided at breakfast that she would not bother coming with us. She felt the wheelchair would be an imbuggerance and would slow us down. She also said she was mashed from the long trip down. I said to her 'How tiring can it be to sit in a wheel chair and be pushed around the shops?'......but she was adamant that she was going to stay at the hotel and read her book. We had no choice but to leave her there. It was a beautiful sunny day. Cold and crisp. The coach ride was just half an hour. We arrived in Exeter by 10 am and were told that the coach would pick us up at 4pm. Yippeeeee! Six hours to do the shops. It passed very quickly.......we spent some time in the Cathedral......I took loads of lovely pictures. Before we knew it was 2pm and we hadn't had a bite to eat so we went off and had a drink and a snack in Debenhams. We visited some of the charity shops and bought a few little bargains......and just managed to make it to the bus by 4pm.
My feet were aching. We must have walked miles that day.......we got back to the hotel by 5pm......I know it is only a half hour journey, but we got caught up in the city traffic so it took longer to get back to the Hotel.
Muti said she had had a very relaxing day, reading, watching the world go by and then a bit of TV. I asked if she had had any dinner.....No, she hadn't bothered....Had she had a drink, No.....it was too much trouble to go downstairs to the bar...... and the tea and coffee were not to her liking. It was a good job I had bought her some drinks while we were out.
Debs said that if we had been there she would have had us going out to fetch her a sandwich and a drink.
It was supposed to be Christmas Eve, so there were games and quizzes in the bar after dinner. Debs and I went into the bar and sat down......I was just about to go to the bar to get us some drinks when we were told in no uncertain terms that we were in Maud and Ellen's place......they always sat there and would we please move. To keep the peace we did.....to the other side of the room. We sat down again and were told that 'Arthur sits there'.......so we stood up by the bar for a little while. We watched the dancers. It was all strictly come dancing stuff. The old dears in their sparkly tops and silver dancing shoes......I'm only jealous. I wish I could foxtrot and quickstep like they did. We only had one drink and then we decided we would go to our room and have a brandy while we watched TV, antway being Christmas Eve we felt we should be in bed early in case Santa came. We both felt sure that we had been very good girls - well, put it this way.....no one had asked for their money back!
