Friday 27th march. March hasn’t really been a good month for us, we went to Christies
hospital Manchester we arrived at 10-00am, dan was in an awful lot of pain, you could
see it in his face, he had not had a good night he couldn’t sleep properly, neither did jet
so things were a bit fraught to say the least, well we waited & waited, the ward manager
(damian) noticed us & kept apologising for the wait , he did ask dan if he wanted some
liquid morphine & dan agreed so that was dan a little bit more settled, but he can’t sit
up for very long the pain hits him worse when he is, we go into see his consultant a
lovely man very straightforward & to the point, but with a lovely sympathetic way with
him, he asked a lot of questions then he examined our dan , he then went onto have a
look at his leg where the tumour i, his face said it all, this type of bone cancer is very
aggressive & dan’s tumour has trebled in size since it was diagnosed on 5th march, now
dan did bang his forehead coming down the stairs a few weeks ago before he went to birmingham & had an x-ray on it
after we had pointed it out to them.(dan did not tell us until we had got
the results on the Tuesday that they had told him that it was a tumour) now the doctor
had a look at them & told us that it is secondary cancer which they will eventually blast
with radiotherephy, back to his tumour on his leg, this dam thing has trapped dan’s
nerve at the back of his knee thats why he cannot straighten his leg ..causing him
difficulty in walking & sitting, he is more comfortable & relaxed lying down....
i asked the consultant about this ..will it have damaged the nerve & can they repair it if
it has........answer no he may loose his leg.
Dan is now going to start 10 weeks of chemotherephy starting next week (we think).
Then he will go down to Birmingham for an operation , then back to Christies for another
8 weeks of chemo , which takes us through to Christmas. Mez x x
