I like the loo roll away from the wall, if my other half or daughter change it they always put it close to the wall and I always change it back, dont know why but cant stand it the other way![]()

When I was a child the only loo paper you could get was Izal. It was stiff, scratchy and shiney and you could use it as tracing paper, horrible stuff. The Civil Service was still using it up to 1980 and every sheet had Government Property stamped on it - as if you'd want to take it home, you'd have to be desperate.
In hotels the roll is hung with the next piece AWAY from the wall and
FOLDED TO A POINT![]()

They call it etiquetteI can't stand it when hotels fold the end of the lav paper into a point. How pretentious. Fancy having to do that as part of your job!![]()

Yes ... that's what I was talking about: John Wayne toilet paper, "it's rough, and it's tough, and it don't take s**t from nobody."

who'd of thought that a topic about loo roll would be a long one
LOL....mines on the wall next to the loo![]()

I used to have a very old loo roll holder and as the years rolled by you could see the loo rolls getting narrower and narrower but going up in price. After all who would notice if the roll was just one eighth of an inch narrower than last week.something else I have noticed over the years ....toilet paper is narrower in mainland Europe (France and Germany) than the UK or the US , suppose its one way of saving natural resources![]()

My current roll is 110mm wide and it would have been sliced from a great big long roll maybe 3000 mm wide to give 27 rolls with just 3mm wastage. If you reduced the roll width to 107mm you would get 28 rolls and virtually no wastage. Next year reduce the roll width by 4mm and you get 29 rolls. Who would notice?
, just measured the stuff in my bathroom and it measures 114 mm (4 1/2 inches) .
