The pub was full of race goers in their finery....posh frocks and big hats....well turned out young men in silk suits.
I like people watching....and we were in an ideal spot by the door.
Once fed and watered, we headed off to the Castle Museum.
I asked the lad if he wanted to climb Clifford's Tower....he said maybe later.
So we went into the museum.
What a good deal. I got in for £9 and my receipt lets me in as many times as I like over the next twelve months.
Because Tyler counts as a child....he was allowed in at no cost.
We had a great time in the museum. He liked the streets....and had his picture taken standing by a lamppost where his mum had her picture taken 38 years ago.
That is how long it is since I last visited the museum.
I showed him a 1950's kitchen and told him how we had one of these at home when I was growing up....and I had climbed on the drop down table and up ended the thing....he thought that was really funny.
I showed him a slop stone and told him that my grandma had one of those in her galley kitchen.
We looked at stuff from the wars....we looked at a Victorian classroom and he stood by the board and pretended he was teaching.
He went into one of the prison cells and I took his picture holding onto the bars.....I got a picture of that.
I opened the door and let him out.
A little boy said to his mum....'has that boy got out of prison?'
His mum said 'his mummy let him out'....
Tyler laughed because I have been mistaken for his mum twice in as many weeks(thanks Olay).
We looked at Penny Farthing bikes, vintage motor cars, a Lambretta scooter and the American Space capsule(or a replica of it, at any rate)
All of this was educational...we both learned things.....he learned about things I have told him of as I was growing up.
He seemed to enjoy the visit.
We left and made our way back towards the Minster.
He asked about Going to The Jorvik exhibition....there was a 40 minute wait to get tickets so we decided that perhaps we should postpone that for another visit.
So we went to the Minster....via the Shambles and the market.
There were lots of street performers along the way.....a woman playing a guitar and singing a haunting melody....then there was a fire breather, and a swing band.....they were brilliant. It was the kind of band that makes you want to dance...even when you can't.
I started to cut some moves and Tyler rolled his eyes and pretended he did not know me.
Anyway, when we got to the Minster I asked Tyler if he wanted to go up the tower....the thought of all those narrow winding steps put him off....so we just did the Minster.
During the day we walked miles, so when we came out of the Minster, we took a bit of a break to sit in the gardens.
There were lots of other tourists....from all parts of the world....being lead by tour leaders with their rolled up umbrellas with flags on.
I wondered what the tourists made of the city.
There was a group of Japanese tourists sitting at the end of Petergate eating fish and chips....I wonder what they made of that British delicacy.
Before long it was time for us to head off for the bus back home.
We had bought a drink and a sandwich to take back home on the bus.
The journey home was just as trouble free as the trip there....Tyler fell asleep on the bus back home....well, I had walked his legs off.
I have added some pictures to give you a flavour of the day.
Come back for more....but this time Liverpool.
