Just been having one of those mornings of quiet contemplation and thinking about how I came to be where I am now. Still working 'charring'at a local school twice a day, getting up at 5am every morning and walking half a mile for the last ten years.I started to think that my life so far has been a bit of a dead end. Then something popped in to my head - my kids. All adults now, I brought them up single handed for the last eighteen years and when I think of them I realise it wasn't all for nothing. They have grown in to well rounded, decent citizens. The older two both have degrees and professional jobs, the youngest hasn't found his niche yet but will, I'm sure, in time. They are all compassionate, funny and completely honest and I realise just how lucky I am. That was my REAL job. They are all still at home so I think I must have done something right (the eldest is now thirty !) or possibly wrong! Depends on your viewpoint! Oh well, must go , I've clinkers to riddle and pots to side!

Wrong, most definitely wrong, should be well gone by now! :) As to how successful or not our lives are doesn't all hang from our jobs or status, a wealth in family, friends & contentment are all riches & far beyond something with a mere price or standing attached. :)

I agree with Dave here.
Success is something which is very subjective.
If you are content, have a family who cares about you, friends who would come to your aid in times of trouble...a roof over your head, food to eat, the ability to pay your way........then that is success.
You have the bonus of knowing that you instilled your children with the right values, to allow them to progress in life.....everything else is just chaff.

All that really counts in my book,is how well yeh bring yer kids up, if yer fortunate enough to have the little sods, Yeh can't look back on any amount of money, but yeh can wi kids.;)

Thanks Cashman, I know I'm fortunate in having my kids and I love them to bits. I'm also extremely fortunate in that they have grown up in to fantastic human beings. I've seen some of their peers go down a very different route.
