Lsp Top

Yes. Somebody had a problem at work the other week with her Compaq laptop. Suggested she removed the battery and plugged it in to the mains. Evrything worked fine. Not 100% certain all laptops will work that way.

Thanks.

Its a mate of mine I think he tried that and it didnt want to boot up, wondered if there was a setting in bios or something.

Re: Lap Top

Just had a look and its looking bad.

The Laptop is connected to the mains and it shows a mains light on, on a boot up it goes to start and the power light goes out and after a few seconds its dead again.

As soon as its dead the power light comes back on.

Removing the battery results in the power button flickering when pressed and not allowing a boot up.

Any suggestion appreciated.

Poor bloke LOL!! Tell him to get a decent one thats not TIME/EMIT pmsl:D

Unless entwisi comes on later with a possible solution:rolleyes:

Aye, it wasn't running it!

OK, seriously now. how far does it get? You need to disable any 'pretty' BIOS screens, as there will be messages that give us clues. look for stuff like 'F2' to disable POST

TBH, Time laptops are teh cheapest stuff going so don't hold out much hope. On the other hand, if ther is stuff on the HD he needs, we can recover that..................

Basically he has had the lap top for a while, hardly using it but recently he got some bandwidth so its be on alot more.

The lap top is constantly plugged in, so he presumed the battery would not be drained.

However it has died on him, after he left it on charge over night he got about 5 mins worth of time before it shuts down.

It would appear that when the lap top is powerd on and starts to boot it no longer registers that its plugged in to the mains as the AC light goes off, as soon as it shuts down the AC light comes back on.

We had a quick look in BIOS but couldnt really see anything relation to power but didnt want to guess at changing things as this could make it worse.

Also tried with the battery removed, when you press the power button it just flashes and will not boot although it shows three is power going into it as the lights are on.

i kow somone who kackered up their laptop simply by leaving it on to charge over night on teh carpet and it burnt out because there was no ventilation

just a thought
