ive been out with the wife tonight we been in thorn im disgusted my wife has to put up with that language im gutted

sounds as if there was a lot of f......ing & jeffing going on, i wish people would go back to old standards & cut down on that type of language ....its not needed!

what do you thimk of the thorn no it as been done up ?is it truue it is getting turned into flats?

where is thorn?
never heard of it, swearing is bad, but its only a word, take it you never watched the osbornes??:D

i dont like it when your on a bus with the little one and you get some big mouth on the back seat!!
usually the girls, who have the gob on them, i have to bite my lip other wise i would say something, but not with the little un with me!

And I thought it was just me being sensitive. My husband tells me that effing and jeffing is everyday language nowadays...well, not for me it isn't. It is only acceptable if YOU accept it. I would have left...and let the Landlord know why I was leaving...and that I wouldn't be coming back.

The Thorn is in Church.Used to be a nice little pub but its been taken over by the same company who got the Queens & the Railway in Accy & is now more of a sports themed affair. You do get a lot of younger ones in & can get boisterous at times. Not the place to take the missus for a quiet drink at the weekend.

It's a noise, only offencive if you let it offend you. Saying that I do keep my language in check if there are people that could be offended within earshot.

If they were being boisterous & invading your personal space then fair enough, but some people need to get a grip about this 'swearing' lark. It's only words!

'Swearing' is one of the most daft concepts in the English language.
It's absurd the way people take so much offence at it.

I guess it's either my prudish/puritanical side or a cultural thing, but it really bothers me when I have to hear the f word, especially from little kids. When I do, I tell em to watch their language and they most always are respectful and apologize. Many of our friends will do the same with the same result.

What would happen if you asked "the girls on the bus" to tone it down? I certainly don't see bad swearing as "merely words!" I don't believe me or my family should have to be exposed to it. I know I'm in the minority and maybe it isn't as bad over here.

It's like saying a women's breast is just a hunk of flesh so why can't I just have meself a grab on my way into the market? To me, swearing means a whole lot more when used infrequently! Just my tired old opinion!

Oh, by the way Major Tom, in the future, would be a good idea to more closely identify your thread by topic. For example, "Telling Swearers to **** Off!":p (that's not a bad swear is it?)

Brian

Oops, by the blocking I take it that it is. Sorry too offend, just trying to be silly over here cause there is no laughter today!

I dont like to hear people swearing, dont think there's any need for it, nearly brought this subject up myself as yesterday picking my 4 yr old up from school one of the other mothers, sat talking to her friend and every other word was the F word she even said the C word, I know they're only words but it sounded disgusting.

Shaker, we all have things that we find offensive...and while they are only words, I DO find them offensive, because it is an indication that people do not respect my presence. I can understand swearing in an all male environment...or if you hit your thumb with a hammer...or if you are really, really angry about something and need to let off some steam......but to swear in the presence of women who you do not know - well I just find it offensive. I also think it shows a distinct lack of linguistic ability.
And it will ONLY become an acceptable part of everyday life if we choose to ACCEPT it - I do not.

and to swear in front of impressionable children is unforgivable because it makes them think it is 'the' grown up thing to do. It isn't big and it isn't clever.

I don't remember it being that long ago when it used to be an offence , and the police would run you in for it , think the charge was "use of indecent language in public" guess they have have different priorities these days

I'm sorry LYY, but I believe that to be totally intrusive behaviour on your part. Like I said before, if these people are invading your personal space and making normal conversation impossible for you then by all means ask them to keep it down, but you can't go around telling people what words not to use just because you find them offensive, no one is any better than anyone else.
