I dont think its compulsory but it is sensible ,,,its a small price to pay in case of accident ,plus i have mine serviced regularly,,My friend had one a few years ago, he had to take out insurance on his incase he ran into somebody. Is this still the case ?
its nutters like that that get them a bad press......sheese,,plus surely its illegalDriving up the M1 on my way home after a long day a while back and there! Right there was a woman zipping up the hard shoulder on a mobility scooter! Complete with a tartan blanket covering her knees.

I had my foot run over by one in ArgosSaw one parked up outside a pub at lunchtime. Would the same drink drive rules apply??
Whilst the majority of users are responsible there are still those who think that everyone should get out of the way for them 'cos they're disabled. I was once swore at by one lady cos I stopped to open my front door and she had to stop too!
.. and I was standing still filling in my chitty. The 'driver' did not apologise.. just said 'I thought you saw me coming'

Oh come on Margaret, don't you encourage himWell I thought he was being brilliantly witty.....again.

funnily enough was talking to me best mate in accy yesterday, he has one of these, was surprised to see they are "Road Taxed" if that is the case, its nuts they don't have any kind of test, another guy with one joined us, when he left,we were both laughing at his terrible driving.![]()
Seems about right that Gremlin, in the red tape stakes of courseI have just bought my wife a mobilty scooter from Millercare. There was a DVLA form in it to register it. I rang them up to enquire about the road tax for it and they explained that if it only goes at a maximum speed of 6 miles and hour (which my wife's does) it does not need taxing. All scooters which can exceed 4mph must have a switch so that it can be set so it will not exceed 4mph. They must not go on the road if they will not exceed 4mph and not to exceed 4 mph on the footpath.
If a scooter can do 8mph they must be taxed, daft bit is the tax is free and you don't need an disabled exemption certificate, what ever that is. They will give you a registration number but plates do not need to be fitted.
