Mum

Mick

Resting in Peace
Overlooker
It was my mothers 80 Birthday on June the 30th (Thursday)
Anne and i went over on the Saturday before to see her and she was fine we had a good fish and chip dinner and mum really enjoyed it.
But last Thursday i got a phone call from by Brother (David)he had gone to see her and do her shopping and found her on the floor she had been there for 2 days.
David called the doc and then phoned me,i got the train over and by the time i got there the doc had been and had phoned an ambulance to take her to Preston hospital as she said she had a water infection.
The doc had told David not to lift her off the floor and leave her there till the paramedics got there and they would lift her.
i had been there about 20 mins when the ambulance turned up and after a struggle getting the trolley in the house (she lives in a dormer bungalow) with some tight corners but they managed and i went in the ambulance with her while David went in the car, the paramedics said they where taking her to the medical assessment ward at Royal Preston.
The doc was not sure why she was there at first as all the general tests seamed ok they had put her on oxygen in the ambulance and it seamed to have done wonders for her.
anyway we left so other more intrusive tests could be done.
we have since found out her heart rate was high and for some reason her blood was not releasing carbon dioxide as it should.
we went to see her yesterday (sunday)and they said she had pneumonia and a partially collapsed lung due to the pneumonia.
and its going to be a long slow recovery.

so if my modding is not up to scratch i apologise but i have other things on my mind at the moment.

Oh Mick.....what a time you have had.
Your poor Mum, lying on the floor for two days.
She is in the right place now, and I hope she starts to pick up soon...and yes it will be a long slow recovery.........and if she is anything like my dear old Ma, she will complain about how badly she is doing at the getting better.
It's a worrying time Mick, and you need to look after yourself as well.
****** the modding, you have other things on your plate right now(sorry for the french).

I agree with Marg, modding can wait until your Mum is better.

I know, its a fair trek to Preston Hospital and you need all your strength for that.
Will keep your Mum in my thoughts.

Thanks, but the modding does help and take my mind off things for a while.
thanks to both of you for your thoughts and posts.

Heth getting to the Hospital is not too bad we get the train to Preston where i have a great Brother(David) who picks us up in the car if he is not working.
without his help it would be hard though i must admit.

Mick, I know the value of having a diversion, and Yes, it is important to have something that is 'normal' to take your mind off other things in your life...you do need to be kind to yourself.
But I know you are sensible, what I really wanted to get over, is that your modding is secondary(as far as I'm concerned you have always been a good moderator....and I don't reckon that will change much, whatever else is going on).

Priorities Mick, you & your Dave look to your own first mate ! Don't worry yourself about the shower on here, we'll just upset the other Mods & keep 'em busy. ;)
Best wishes to your Mam & hope she makes a good recovery.

im so sorry mick & david ... hope she gets better sooner rather than later ..

let neil take over ... and do the modding give him something to do ... i promise to behave ...

by the way if you walk down to the bus station its bus 19 to go up to the hospital ... theyre every 6 mins ... drops you off outside the main entrance

The Hospital phoned me yesterday morning to say they where sending mum for a Bronchoscopy.
I tried to phone at teatime to see how she was but it took another 5 calls to get through, they said the Bronchoscopy had been cancelled as mum was too ill.
her lung has now totally collapsed and she was in stage 2 respiratory arrest.
But that she was responding slowly to the medication.
My Brother David had gone up to see her and they had said we could visit anytime we don't have to bother with the ward times.

My Daughter had been up the other day to see mum and had taken her a card and some flowers but was told she could not have the flowers but could show them to her so Lynn said to mum " we have bought you these flowers you can look at them but cant have them".
she had to take them home again.

Mick, I have just come back from the school walk. On the walk I was thinking of you, wondering how your Mum was.(I'm just a nosey critter)
Thank you for the update.
I'm sorry to hear that your Mum is still poorly.......what a shame about the flowers, there must be a reason for them not letting her keep them(you could never leave flowers in ICU).
Hope you hear some better news very soon.

Oh the reason is its a respiratory ward so can understand really but there are no notices up to tell you.

We went over to Preston Yesterday and mum looking much better they have taken the respirator off during the day so she only has it at night.
they found a blood clot on her lung but she has responded to meds and thats gone she might be on warfarin to thin the blood but she is a lot better was sat up chatting for an hour.
and eating fine the nurses and docs are very happy at her progress but say its going to be a long recovery.

Was waiting on Preston station for the train home when another accywebber came past chatting to his friend so Hi again Graham Jones good to chat with you .:D

oh Mick....so glad that you have had a bit of good news.

Good to hear that your Mum is sitting up, eating well and taking notice.Wishing her continued improvement.

Her lung is still collaped , but looking and sounding a bit brighter today . Even the Doctors and Nurses agree that she is a bit better than she was . But the way she is talking , she doesn't think she will ever walk out of there . I think and told Mick that we need some Hope she will come back home !

Our mother is not giving us much hope the way she is talking !

David, they do that.....I think it is a sort of inevitability. However, that doesn't mean she won't come out of there.
It takes a while for a collapsed lung to re-inflate. They usually put some kind of drain in to help the lung(it used to be an underwater seal drain, but nowadays they use Heimlich Valves).
I hope she continues with her improvement.

Just been over to Preston to see Mum, she seams much better and is now off the respirator,
They have put her on warfarin and she is sat up chatting,
she asked David to go to the shops for biscuits and bread sticks to snack on during the night so her appetite is coming back.
she does have problems with her feet and at the moment cant walk but the physiotherapist's on her case for this as she wont be allowed home until this is sorted.
We also had words with the staff and they will be assessing her for home and her needs so all in all she is doing better and all docs and nurses are happy with the progress made to date but a long way to go yet she is still having problems breathing after her collapsed lung but that's being sorted slowly.
The only problem i had was with the trains going and coming back as they only put 2 carriages on and its Blackpool season so they where like being in cattle carts on both trips.
