Music Soothes.......

I was lucky enough to be given a feast of music yesterday.
My next door neighbour gave me a boxed set of CD's 'Your 100 Best Tunes'....from the BBC radio program of the same name.

So today I have been transported by the classics.
Now when you mention to people that you enjoy classical music, folk wrinkle their noses and think of you as a bit of a 'fuddy duddy'.......they do not realise that many advertising campaigns rely on the music of the popular classics....and if you let them hear some of the music they will say...'aah,yes.....that was the music for such and such a product'
Hamlet cigarillos used J.S Bach's Air on a G String.......There are many others......none of which spring readily to mind when you want them to.

I have been listening to Massenet Meditation (Thais)...the Intermezzo from Cavaleria Rusticana, Borodins Polovtsian Dances...Beethovens 6th Symphony(Pastoral).......and many others......there are even some pieces of music that I didn't know the names of but once they started playing I knew the tunes very well.

My father used to mention names of classical music and I would say 'No......I don't know that one'.......and he would say 'you do, you do'......then he would play it for me and he was right......I did know the tune, but couldn't remember the name.

I have loaded lots of this classical music onto my MP4 player to take with me on my trip to Folkestone.......Did I tell you that I was going to Folkestone on Monday?

Yes, I am away with Ma.......and I am going to take my swish camera too.

I am still trying to find my way around all the doings of this new piece of kit.......It has an 'Idiots mode'........so I guess I might be able to take some shots using that, but I think I am going to have to think about enrolling for some lessons perhaps when the winter comes........just to help me get to grips with the knobs and controls.
Either that or do some experimenting!

Ian was a big fan of classical music Marg there will be some cd's knocking about here somewhere. I will look them out and let you know what there is, they are yours if you want them not my cup of tea.

Oh Bernie, that would be lovely........didn't you listen to them together?
My dad used to play classical music all the time when we were little....I think that is where I get my love of the classics from.

No Marg I have no love for classical music but Ian adored it. Some of the cd's have gone to family already but there are still some here. Ian would want them to go to somebody that appreciates classical music:)

There's so much beautiful music around, Debussy, Dvorak (forget "Symphony from the New World" and listen to "Song to the Moon" from Rusalka. It's on Youtube), Chopin, Tchaikovsky all wrote memorable music. I love Grieg too.

You've opened a whole new sphere for yourself, Margaret. Enjoy it.
