Laura got a new clarinet music book today. She has finished the first one and can now play 11 notes including the newest one - bottom A.

The new book has about 20 short pieces, on the first few pages, that she just skipped through easily but the great thing is then comes to tunes that we all know. Several Christmas carols, a few Nursery Rhyme tunes and also "When the Saints Go Marching In", "Little Boxes" (made of ticky-tacky - Pete Seager - you remember?) and various others similar. She played them all; I was delighted.

She has only been learning 4 months and she's competent with her instrument and can sight-read music. It says a lot for her talent and, also, for the ability and skill of her music teacher.

I always wanted to play the clarinet. Alas, my parents could not afford the instrument or the lessons....we did have a piano, and Dad played a violin...though he called it a fiddle.

I hope Laura does very well, it does seem like she has an inborn aptitude.

Yes, I think the family music gene has surfaced again. There's a tune in the book she's dying to play for me but it has 2 high notes she hasn't learned yet so I have to wait. The tune is Elvis's "Love Me Tender". :)
