I am ever so slightly worried about my dad. Honestly parents!!!! If it's not one of them it's the other. He has bought himself a new toy, a Triumph Thunderbird 900cc motorbike. Most people will wonder why I'm worried about that, but he hasn't ridden a motorbike for over 20 years. I think that 900cc is a bit powerful for an inexperienced rider.
Don't get me wrong, my dad is a brilliant driver. He has been a bus driver for over 35 years, has loads of safe driving awards, also has a HGV 1 license and motorbike license, but it just seems like such a long time since he's had a bike. I remember him having a motorbike when I was a kid. It was a 250cc something or other, he then bought a 750cc thingy. He used to let us ride pillion with him and it was great.....
Things have changed since then though. Traffic is heavier, there are more idiots on the roads than ever before. I am not worried about his riding skills, I am worried about the idiots out there who don't think to look for motorbikes when they are happily driving along and don't realise that to overtake a bike you need to give as much space as overtaking another car.
Anyhow, he brought the bike round last night to show it off. I know nothing about motorbikes but it is lovely. All shiny and in perfect condition. I know that he will spend hours polishing it, so at least it will give him something to do. He is a bit nervous on it, as he has only had it for a day and is getting used to riding a bike again. He set off from my house at about 2mph......... Definitely uneasy rider at the moment. I think it will be a cold day in hell before I ride pillion...
Boys and their toys eh.........
