Neon Socks

Resting in Peace
Overlooker
Today a customer was looking for table linen in a bright pink, explained we had dyed up cloth in Neon colours .. now most people would understand immediately (they glow under ultra-violet). Hard to describe colours over the phone, but think I am reasonable at this after 30+ years in the industry.

Well, ya' know like the colour of Teddy Boys socks in the 50's? Seeing as he was only 47, didn't get it. Bet some of you lot do ... :D

yea i got it too ..i used to pinch my older brothers socks & even his jeans ...which in those days were work clothes .

Not very classy, would get laughed off the street now, but then, well ... cool::cool: Tee hee, needed these sunglasses.

not sure if there is a difference between Neon and day-glo colours but both should be left to teenagers, and definetly no one with 47 year old skin or teeth should be anywhere near UV light unless its for medical reasons

you were dealing with a DUMMY katex, but were to diplomatic to say that to him.lol:D plus it can be bad buisness, though its never bothered me.lol

Teddy boys' socks didn't need ultra-violet lights - they glowed on their own. They were essential on dark nights as you couldn't hear teds approaching, with their thick crepe-soled shoes on, so the strip of sock showing at the bottom of the drainpipe trousers acted as a warning light to prevent collisions and the possible entanglement of beehive hairdos in Bryllcremed quiffs.

Weren't they called fluorescent socks? They came in lime green, yellow, pink and orange.

You certainly didn't need ulraviolet lights to see them peeping from between the drainpipe trousers and the brothel creepers.

When Direct DJ was christened his God Father attended the church in his Teddy boy gear.
He looked ever so smart. Complete with brothel creepers and fluorescent sox.

At the same time as the socks,, us girls had white plastic jackets,,
Me and my best friend Frances decided they were a bit grubby so we sponged them down with washing up liquid ,all was fine until it rained ,and we were both covered in froth ...:o

The same thing often happened to Teddy Boys who used soap to keep the curls in the front of their Tony Curtis hairdos. :D

I had shocking pink, lime green, and neon orange and full circle skirts in the same colours with giant musical note embroidered on them. My dad hated them he used to say," don't think you are leaving this house looking like that!"
so I would hide them in the shed and change where he couldnt see

I know this is nothing to do with day-glo/neon socks....but it is on similar lines.
My mother tells a tale of going to a dance during wartime and being unable to get any stockings....so she used Burdalls Gravy browning to colour her legs....at the end of the evening she was cahsed home by a pack of dogs trying to lick the gravy browning off her legs....she swears that this story is true.

my mun used cocoa once some one accidentally splashed drink on her you can imagine what it looked like :( :Banane13: :Banane13: :Banane13:
