New Doctors Premises

Hi, I understand that the new doctors premises at the top of Church Street/corner of Paradise Street are to open on 12th December. I know for certain that my own doctors from Peel House Medical Centre are moving there. Was just thinking what an awkward place its going to be to get to for the older people. Just wondering has anyone "in high places" had the sense to think about a bus service to that area of town, say half hourly?

Anyone out there with a bus company - food for thought!

When I first heard these medical centres mentioned I was told that free buses would be provided. Having said that if the doctors are not moving in as some of our members have been told I wonder if the buses will still be provided.

its not that far from town!
only the same to avenue parade, but there is a little hill there i suppose!
but the idea of a bus is not a bad idea!;)

I guess its down to catchment area though. I would reckon a lot of old folk from avenue paarde/Stanley street are are at Peel house will now have to get to paradise street. That is a fair walk for someone with walking difficulty particularly in teh middle of winter.

An uphill walk is a very real problem for the elderly. I didn't even consider that until I became 'elderly' myself.

That new Tesco site is an uphill walk (Eagle St) and will depend on the bus station being built next to it in order to draw in the shoppers.

Eastbourne is a favourite old folks holiday destination because the land is flat and condusive to strolling, whereas Torquay is built in a steep river valley - breathtaking in more ways than one :)

Why are the lights on in the medical centre all the time?

Think you'll find thats for security in that it would be possible for the guards to see someone robbing the building site with the lights on, if lights go out then they would have to investigate (sp) but with lights on they can see into building a lot easier

I must have an old fashioned view of security;)

Well it can also be blammed on the H&S side of things to. Just making sure staff on patrol don't trip over anything, fall down a hole etc

The lights are on at night as they have staff in some nights working till the early hours IT people putting network cables in

The bus station is going on Crawshaw St car park Margaret to allow access to Eastgate via demolition of some of Union St maybe, Quick Save? get to know a bit with living near and council 'scuttlebut' out side the house as they yap on their way up to work. Eagle St is very steep the easiest way is via Church St The bus station on Crawshaw st would stop the traffic build up at 'rush hour,' it is a lazy drivers car park, not used at Holidays or Sundays, just by office and shop workers.the site is larger than Eagle st site and the council already own most of it, unlike Eagle st I think British Rail own that.

Ta for the info - it seems a better place for it. Never understood why 'next to the rail staiton' was an option worth even thinking about
