We called at Mick's last night in an attempt to fix Sparky's computer. Some of you may have noticed that he has not been on the site for a while, it is because his computer has demised, temporarily we hope. Mick is helping to fix it and all being well he will be joining us again by the end of the week.
After Mick's we went to see Garinda for a chat and a drink. We ended up calling in the Black Dog for a quick drink with Rindy, Chav and HR. It was a nice distraction from the events of my day, and even though I looked like hell, I managed a laugh or 2.
I came home and said goodnight to my little friend, she had to be nil by mouth from last night so I was dreading getting up for work this morning and being incessantly barked at for food.

She wasn't interested in food this morning, never barked like usual, just came for a stroke and a tail wag. I said goodbye and went to work.
I have been upset all morning, my mum took her to the vet at 9am, and I have been on pins. My colleagues have all been really good and supportive. I busied myself sorting out a few problems with supplies, or lack of.........Did the ward round, assisted in a delivery and managed to pass the time until home time at 1pm.

When I got home, the phone was ringing, it was the vet.........

He said that the dog was very anaemic, they had given her anaesthetic and opened the skin to look at the mass. It was huge and blood filled, they did a biopsy, but couldn't stop the bleeding from it, neither could they remove it, it was too big........ She was bleeding to death on the operating table. I had no decision to make really, I had to ask them to put her to sleep whilst she was still under anaesthetic, at least that way, she wouldn't know anything about it. The vet said that the tumour was very aggressive and even had she not bled, she wouldn't have lasted more than a month.

I feel so sad, she was quite well until the weekend and I'm a bit shocked at how quick it has been. I am trying to console myself with the thought that at least she hasn't suffered a long illness.

The vet thinks that I have made the right decision, but there was no decision to make, she would have died on the operating table.

It will be quiet here without my chum, it may take a bit of getting used to.

We had lots of fun over the years, I'll miss her.

I'm very sorry you have lost your pal.....it is heartbreaking and you will miss her dreadfully.... but as you say the decision was removed from you...and she didn't suffer. Take care Lettie.

Sooooo sorry Lettie!! The decision was made for you mate!! which hopefully will make it a little easier for you.

So sorry to hear that Lettie, have not read the journals for a couple of days so wasn't even aware of your dilemma when we were having a drink last night!! As G says remember the good times and the fact it happened so quickly.... take care xxxx
