Well, we got back from Wales last night.
For the first time ever, I took no pictures.
In fact I did precious little. We had to be up early last Monday morning as I was going over to Ma's, to help with her case and the wheelchair.
We had to be on Bank Street for 7.10 am.
What a crazy time. Llandudno is about one hour and forty-five minutes down the motorway. Yet we had to be picked up at that ungodly hour.......well, ok, it isn't that ungodly if you don't have to make bacon butties, get drinks ready and then get over to Ma's.
I slept really badly, despite feeling tired.
I have a horror of waking up late and having to rush round like a madwoman.......leaving some essential item out of the case.
It hasn't ever happened....and when all is said and done what is so essential that it can't be bought in Wales? Exactly - I was being a worry bucket!
When I got up to Ma's house, she had had a similar night to mine.......sleepless, but her worry was her little dog....he had gone off to the kennels with the greatest reluctance.
Ma said he looked like he was being taken to his death. So she felt very guilty - and must have mentioned this fact at least 20 times on the journey.
We did a mini tour of the north west before getting to Stretton just after 9am.
I went to get Ma a hot chocolate drink to have with her bacon butty(she had made a slice of toast for her breakfast, but had got distracted and burnt it - she still ate it, after she had scraped the black bits off, but said it wasn't very enjoyable).
She did enjoy my bacon butty and we sat and waited for our coach destination to be called.
We were told not to expect to be called until quarter past ten, but in the end, it was ten past eleven before we were climbing aboard.
Ma was a bit dischuffed. She wanted to be off and away. It would suit her greatly if she could be teleported....or if she could got to sleep in her own bed and wake up in resort!
Now wouldn't that be a neat trick?
We arrived in Llandudno just after midday.
We couldn't get into our rooms until 3pm.......but wait.
When the coach drew up outside the hotel, the manager came on board and gave out registration cards and room numbers.......we didn't get one!
I was full of foreboding. Remember the holiday had been cancelled for all of twenty minutes the previous week.......I wondered if no registration card meant that there had been some kind of glitch in communication.
I was told to go to the Reception desk and the girls there would sort me out.
I settled Ma into the ballroom and strode off to do battle with reception.
I explained that we had not been given a registration card and room number. The girl asked for our details........I told her our names and the booking reference number.
'Oh........I have you down as a cancellation' she said.
The driver was standing at reception and he told the girl that we were on his manifest....so definately not cancelled.
Ma had asked for a low floor room and one which was not too far from reception.......she had been told t hat because of her disabilities this would be granted......anyway, due to this hitch it wasn't possible for us to have a room close to reception.
We were given the room we had in October.
The one where the window didn't close properly, where the curtains had a hand sized hole in them......and a flies cemetery, and a goodly pile of dust on top of the window frame (which I found when I had tried to close the window - using brute force).
The good news was......the curtains had been replaced, the window frames had been cleaned and the window was now firmly closed.
I told Ma that I would ferry her to and from the dining room in her wheelchair, as she found it too far to walk.
At first she protested, but once I had her arm pressed firmly up her back she relented
.
We had a pleasant stay. The weather wasn't too unkind.
Ma wouldn't go out. She really didn't want to tax my strength at all, despite the fact that Llandudno is all on the flat and I would have taken my time.
I didn't go on any of the trips. I had a walk each day along the front....a good blow in the sea air. I went to the shops when Ma had a whim for something.
We both went to bed early....didn't take advantage of the the three hour free bar each evening.
The food wasn't brilliant, but we didn't starve.(chips smuggled into the room......hot roast pork barms too)
We met some lovely people. They made our little break enjoyable....Ma was able to entertain them with her tales....and there was uproarious laughter at our table every night, and we were always the last in the dining room.
All in all, it was an enjoyable break.
