I was talking to my newly retired colleague this morning. I sort of apologised for not attending her presentation. She told me it was a very emotional day. People we have both worked with were telling her how much she will be missed......she, like me, is not very good on the emotional front. I don't like crying in front of people......I get very embarrassed and she is the same.
She said she was determined not to cry.......and she didn't.
But she did when she got home and read all the wonderful cards she had been given.

She said that she had been worried all week about how the day would go.......there had been threats to put her in the bath.....not a bubble bath, but a tealeaf and cornflake bath......I was threatened with the same and had a spare set of clothes in my car all the week that I was due to retire.
She said that she had wound herself up so much that she couldn't sleep on Friday night for the adrenalin surging round her system.

I asked her what she was doing with herself.....she told me that she has heaps of cleaning up to do. Me, being the good organised housewife that I am, told her to leave it. I said to her 'You have always been tied to a deadline.....you know that you have to get so much done in your days off. Now you don't HAVE to do anything to a set timescale. Leave the cleaning up, relax......get used to being at home.....prepare for your holiday'

She is going away the week after next......to Exmoor. I am going with my daughter and her family to Exmouth. I told her that.
We might bump into one another.
I am going to go and see her at home next week and take my retirement gift and card. I hope she likes them.

I don't cry much either, more a case of not being able to cry rather than not wanting to cry in front of others. Funny cos I was brought up to cry to get it out of your system

I hope you have a wonderful holiday. You might even find an internet cafe to keep us upto date via your blog.:)

I'm the same with the crying thing. If i cry in front of people It is meant and something that I can't stop happening. I do agree though, when i have finished crying i do feel a lot better, but usually it is only my bathroom walls that see me cry.

I'm way too soft and tend to blub into a tissue at any happy or sad occasion. I think that when I retire I'll just sneak out and not tell anyone.
