Those folk who know me, know I am a frugal person.
I'm not sure if this is because of my upbringing....again, most of those who read this blog know that we had nowt.
If a burglar broke into our house he would be very unlucky...in fact he would probably leave us something.
I was reading the paper yesterday.......with my slice of toast and my big mug of tea.
I read that Tamara Ecclestone is sending people out to South America to find natural crystal so that she can have a bath made out of it.
This bath is going to cost her 1 Million pounds!!!!!!! Yes, a million. She is currently searching for a house in which to install this million pound bath..........and she is looking at houses(In L.A. Where else?) with a starting price of 100 million pounds.
I was aghast...but I continued to read on...trying not to choke on my toast.
This girl, who is Bernie Ecclestones daughter, goes on to say that she has never been spoilt, knows the value of money and likes to get a bargain.
I think this is an obscene amount of money to be spending on both a house and a bath.
I know it is none of my business what she does with her money.....but I felt incensed at her and sorry for her at the same time.
Incensed that she could spend so much on something that is purely to show off..even though she says she will spend a lot of time in her bath....it is an outrageous amount.....and sorry for her because she seems to neither know or care that there are children dying for want of basic medicines and clean water.
And for those of you who tell me that it will always be thus....I would say,'that maybe the case'.
If I had that kind of disposable income I would try to make sure that some good came of it.
Sure....I would try to make my own life more comfortable, but I would not forget those who had nothing....and would try to do some good with my money(in this country first).
Somehow the values of the world seem to be getting screwier.
