Who ordered the monsoon?
Yesterday was the Summer Solstice and it should have been the longest day...with the most daylight. In reality it was like November.
I needed the lights on for most of the day.
Today I don't think it has stopped raining since I opened my eyes at 7am....it was tippling it down then and it is still tippling it down now...some twelve and a half hours later.
We have a grand lake at the bottom of the street. The rain is cascading off the guttering and hitting the garden.
We went up to see Ma earlier today. I donned my waterproof coat....it was successful in repelling the water for maybe twenty minutes and then it gave up the fight.
During the twenty minutes that my coat fended off the rain....the said rain flowed down my coat and onto my trousers...so my top half was dry(relatively, that is), but my legs were sopping wet.
Anyway we didn't hang about.....not that we ever do.
By the time we got back to the car the water was seeping onto my shoulders and down my back.
We still had to ascend the hill with Ma's groceries and doo-dads.
The grass is as high a an elephants eye......so that was another way we were going to be soaked....there was a river running down the back of the hill....causing little puddles of foam to collect....... there was another river running down the front of her house...we had to wade through this to get to her front door.
We dropped off her shopping and made a hasty retreat. didn't want to drip on her best bit of brussels, we also wanted to get out of our wet clothes, to fend off pneumonia.
On arriving home, himself discovered that he still had Ma's loaf in the back of the car...so he had to do it all again......but I told him 'once you are wet - you can't get much wetter'...but he still seemed just a bit put out to have to go back - it was his own fault...he put the stuff in the car and he should have known it was there.
When he came back home he looked as if he had swum there and back.
Will someone please press the button that turns on the sun...or if that can't be done, I'd settle for having the wet turned off.
Thankyou.
