Old school teeth.

When I lived in Glasgow my friend Eleanor did my teeth. She use to drive me down the Clyde to her surgery in her Porsche like a bat out of Hell, and I'd get the train back into town from Port Glasgow at a more sedate speed. My smile was even brighter because she treated me for free.

On moving back home, I was thrilled when I managed to get on the books at Mum's dentist at Antley. They took my ten pounds registration fee, gave me a check up, charged me for x-rays and said I would need treatment on a tooth. A fortnight later I received a letter saying that they were only going to treat private patients, so basically bog off.

We had our names down with the supposed new dentists at Accy Vic, as well as at a surgery in Oswaldtwistle. That was nearly eight months ago, and we've heard nothing.

My brother and his family go to the dentist who moved from Accrington to Whalley. I was at QEGS with him, and also knew him from Church. My brother mentioned this to him, as apparently asks about me when he treats my brother.

Today saw me driving Mum and myself to Whalley through the pouring rain. My old school friend, who I hadn't seen in twenty five years, kindly took out the aching back tooth, and booked me in for a filling in the next couple of weeks.

I hope my Dad is looking down from Heaven above, knowing that all those years of school fees weren't wasted, as today they facilitated in the removal of my sore tooth.
