There's just me and the cat until Friday. Nik and Laura have gone away for a short break - to Butlins at Bognor Regis. Nik was very nervous about it, before they left. It wasn't the drive down there, she has a new sat-nav and was looking forward to it; she did, after all, find her way to Edinburgh 2 years ago. It certainly wasn't Bognor which looks like a nice place. It was Butlins.
She's never stayed at a Butlins before (neither have I). My elder daughter worked at the Pwhelli one for a month, in the Summer after she finished 6th form in 1982, and we visited her there but we stayed in our caravan at Criccieth. Nik was only 6 at the time and can't remember it so she's just had anecdotes and "Hi-de-Hi" to go on.
They hadn't planned on going at all but had popped into a local Travel Agents to see about hotels in Dublin. Laura came home with a load of small brochures she's picked up and one of them was Butlins. Once she had read through it she was desperate to go so, as there was so much activity for children, Nik decided to look into it.
She chose Bognor because it was the only one offering de-luxe accomodation for a 4 night break. As that means towels and linen provided and 2 bedrooms upstairs, that clinched it. So, 6 weeks ago, she booked and today off they went at 9 a.m.
I got a text from Laura at 1.30 saying, "Only 100 miles." I got another at 4.30 saying, "I'm here." Nik texted to say the accomodation was basic but nice and clean and the dining room was like feeding time at the zoo and she was glad they were in de-luxe because they had a parking space outside the front door. Then Laura texted again to say she's going to see George Sampson tonight, so now we know what happens to BGT winners.
I texted Laura, if she sees George at the stage door to tell him she's from Lymm, as he is from Warrington.
So, it's all peace and quiet here. It's very tidy, too. I miss the pair of them when they're away but I do revel in a bit of solitude every now and then. Just going to join the cat on the sofa...............
