Got my onion sets planted deeper than normal , to stop the birds pulling them out .

I heard a programme today on the radio today Thanks to our "Loweiy"AKA Stephen Lowe , which said use chicken pellets over your onions as a manure. I will be trying that this year .
 
Onions sets starting to come through now . With planting them deeper , Not one onion has been pulled out by the birds . You could sit there and watch him come up lol.
 
Got my Chicken pellets today . Believe me , you can tell they came out the back end of a chicken . They smell 'orrible but i am sure they will help to produce large onions .
 
Every time I walk too the back door , It stinks of chicken crap , I am sure its going to do some good somewhere !!!
 
I need to know where i can get onion sets in October / November , as I am going to plant as soon as possible .

Anyone know where to get the sets from that early ???
 
Pulled up my onions today . Some really good sized onions . Haif a large sack harvested .
 
I thought you had to hange them to dry out a bit ?

They are in the greenhouse drying out .

I put them in a sack to move them to the greenhouse .
 
Got my onion sets for next year , ( Troy f1 ) and my chicken pellets . Hoping to plant them , when the weather bucks up in a few days time .
 
Bought some " Elephant Garlic " off Robinsons of Forton the other day . Planted two bulbs outdoors and one bulb in the greenhouse , All in cloves of course .Robinsons told me to use Chicken pellets and growmore together . It works for onions aswell .

I have also put Blood fish and bone down .
 
Elephant garlic just starting to come up . I noticed three poking through today .

Ordinary garlic have four inch shoots .
