Aye that's right! It's that time of year again when your normally diligent, rule following, "Gutbürgerlich" Germing tends to go a little bit off the rails & becomes this most unusual creature. Cavorting, carousing & quaffing with abandon your average "Oktoberfestler", while not actually breaking any rules they certainly tend to bend them to a certain degree & quite happy to do so it seems. Mind you, the Ale probably has some bearing on this uncharacteristic (for a Germing anyway) outlandish behaviour.
For reasons known to themselves & German antiquity the "Oktoberfest" kicks off in September
(I know, or rather I don't, but then again I'm a Johnny foreigner here). Originally a big thing down South in Bayern & Munich in particular, the popularity of the "Wies'n" has spread through out the land & can even be seen on foreign shore to boot. Hence the local event here in Hagen this week-end, where yours truly & the Witchitty one were in attendance with some friends (Yeah, some friends, making me drink gimungous pots of Beer against my better judgement ..... and wealth, of past hungover experience
).
Turning to at 7 to be sat for half past was the plan & like all plans (when Beers involved) that one went out the window! Get in, get sat, get beer & so begins the road to perdition.
I managed to fight the demons initially by having only 2 small beers (half litres) then the Oompahs got me, them & the yodel-ey-ee-ohs! What's a lad to do .....? Easiest answer, "Go large & Mingle" Aye them steins are grand things so they are!
That was it, the night went downhill (or uphill depending where & with whom you're standing
) from then on in. The place was heaving, literally, the tent was mungous & you pretty much had to shout to hold a conversation, the background noise levels were on a par with a gert big jet taking off & that was without the oompahs on their trombones trying to make my ears curl in on themselves
.
Then there was the folk themselves, a mass of humanity in all its shapes, forms & sizes eye opening & popping all at once, the harried bar staff hurtling all over the shop carrying fistsfull of pots, the oompahists giving it the welly, then them Burghers, dancing on, under & over tables. And as for the bulging, bobbling & popping out in a most unseemly manner, eeh it were like being a nipper at a birthday party again, slavering over all that wobbly jelly ..... shocking so it was, but a slap round the back of the head sorted that out, well, me actually.
Still, the beer was flowing & all around folk were obviously having a good time from what I could see through the bottom of me pot. Eventually we decided to call time on the frivolity & frolics & head for home, the taxi driver (Witchy one) escorted me out of the premises & pointed me in the direction of the jallopy, the wickeedness just wanted to see me struggle, but I showed her, I even took that piccy of the advertising for the event, looked fine to me ....... apparently I wasn't quite as fleet & graceful in my gait as usual, but I'm not having that one, that's just slanderization is that.
Anyways here I am now, recounting my adventures to you goodly folk who bother to read my ramblings, so obviously I couldn't of been that bad could I?
Thanks for reading & go safely in all your doings .....
Piccys from the "Wies'n"
The better half & me - Some of those "So called friends"
- folks enjoying themselves - more of those friends - Me (being led astray) Manon & Pete - Another gang shot - Next stop Poland!
