oh dear........ so you escaped from there as well?

In many ways I am a Brierfielder. To keep this on thread sort of :), in the days of proper wakes weeks my Grandad used to sell papers from a doorway in Brierfield centre cos all the shops were shut. I used to help him, so apart from having a paper round I was also a paper seller :D

you lived in Reedley?

No Brierfield!

Born on Castle Street

Attended Walter Street & Edge End

But grew up on Halifax Road just below the Snowball and spent my formative Years on Heyhead Park, The Snowball, The Stump, Junc & The Railway:eek:

Still go back for the odd night out but it's not the same anymore!

Usually in the shoe shop doorway them days ( Whittakers from memory )

Freddie's ( good bloke ) weren't going in those days, I worked for the one in the centre, was Cox's when I was there then bcame Heaps, now closed down.

And to prove it's a small world I used to live on Commercial St when I was younger :D

This thread brought back some memories! My older brother, sister, and I all had paper "routes" (my younger brother and sister were bums, only helping with Sunday morning deliveries out the back of mi dad's station wagon). The rest of the week, we delivered the evening paper via our bicycles with baskets.

The total route was about 3 miles with around 80 customers. Collection days (Friday) was both the best ($$$$$$) but took alot of time. Ya had to knock on each door and usually have a bit of a natter, especially with the older neighbors! I guess we made about $30 a week which wasn't bad back in the late 60s/early 70s.
