Poor Gates

Hmmm....I've an idea. There are quite a few members on the rest of the Accy Web (i.e.the non Stanley/Footy section) who have never been, or have no intention of going to Stanley. Nor do they appear on this part of the site. It might be worth just running a poll on why. I don't know to what extent it would be representative. All active Stanley supporters are barred. If the monitors allow it - which they should, because its a general topical thread, then it may prove interesting.

Here goes. Give me a few minutes.

You also say that we should look to Everton as an example, but they did exactly the same as we did & SOLD Wayne & Thomas arguably there two best players!

Had they not had a good manager & a good group of players they could have been in Div 2!

Success kept 32,000 people coming to Goodison .......

We need a play off final place to cement another 100 or so "die hards"

On a positive, as Stanley fans all we can do is keep spreading the word, keep telling people who you support on holiday, on day trips etc wear your shirt, sing songs in Accrington kebab shops (:p ), convert your mates etc etc

I took a Stanley flag to Bulgaria & probably got 20 english people, 20 irish people & a few Germans to follow with interest OUR team. Maybe they will attend one day & I will have brought another £12 into the coffers! Similarly, I now look for Waterford & Schalke results & would attend if i was over there........

Keep............ the ..................faith

Stanley till i Die!

me and stveros.. nagh.. I know who he is.. i also know what the future holds :)

You cant Kipax, staveros is the most covert of operators!!

William who calls himself jase, it is funny you call me david brent, this accusation has been thrown my way before, I have no clue why?

It was liverpool fans last time, they had a discussion on me on their forum 'Tthe Liverpool Way', it can be found on Yahoo.

The legend of staveros reaches all corners of the globe, one day his name shall be up in lights.

staveros: often misunderstood, but still....a good friend to animals

Ok lets say i think your name staveros is poorly thought out... omar might be better.. but too obvious.... how about a star trek villan ? hmmm but who ?

Right then...the polls up in the general chat section of the site, the hread being "why don't people go to support Stanley.

By the way, I've got a mate called Stavros. He's a rabbit for a couple of brothels in the West End (a rabbit is the guy who goes round the public telephone boxes sticking up piccys of the girls and the services they offer. Good money,to.)

I dont doubt you have someone im mind but im pretty sure its not me.

Your mystic clues ring no bells at all really.

I could only think you would suggest omar if you had stood next to me in the urinals?

You have friends that break the law, and litter the streets of London with obscene bits of paper for children to see????

There are three people from the general forum going to the match for the first time tonight, Sarah, Mez's baby boy and Mez herself who has bought a Stanley t-shirt for the event and looked very fetching.

Sadly it's sunny and not going to be wet.;)

sorry far too much of a coincidence for me.. i hate unexplained coincidences... I know his brother (sort of...absoloutly top bloke) who has big stanley connections and then up pops you.... i smell a rat..

Yeah I had to pick the pornographic filth up everyday in Jermyn Street, and only had a cursory glance before I put it in the bin.;)

Well observed , Tealeaf. Absolutely spot on.

I may take issue with some of your later comments on this thread, but I must concur that the non-footy section of AccyWeb is representative of Accrington - indeed, Hyndburn - as a whole.

By all means let's make every effort to keep our long-term supporters within the fold - it's a tragedy whenever we lose one.
But we must be ever watchful and totally aware of what the great majority of the local population is thinking.

We need to try to see things from their point of view, rather than from that of the Stanley diehards.

As I've said many times (and I make no apology for repeating), the general public will come to Livingstone Road for a Stanley match when they are attracted by something in particular, e.g. it's a nice day, or it's a Cup Match. They emphatically will NOT come back soon if the facilities have fallen below their expectations . . . regardless of whether it was a Stanley victory.

Conference Football in East Lancashire is populated by too many football enthusiasts and not enough pragmatists.

the staveros is happy to let you know that he has checked his hectic schedule and is going to grace the ies with his presence against 'creepy' crawley town on the 17th.

the staveros is nice enough to do this without a big signing and without a roof on the clayton end terrace. your enthusiasm has convinced the staveros that another chance would be in order.

a generous man indeed.

this is your chance to get the staveros back on the hook so be sure to have plenty of cold draught budweiser awaiting and some speedy service.

most importantly though you need to let the players know that they are going to be blessed with my audience and that they should put on a performance fit for a king.

i will point you out to everyone.. you will of course be in the posh bit and not with us plebs.....

i have a crystal ball.. it shines brightly when you are around staveros :)
